I worked at D&B full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good Benefits thats it!! There are no other pros. There was one kind manager.

    Cons

Bad Management , Craziest place I have ever worked, They have created a environment of paranoia
Don't walk away from this place run!!! My last day was one of the happiest days of my life. Way too many leaders and managers. Train you to bully people into buying their service,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Respect your employees!!! Treat People with respect instead of like cows for slaughter . Stop bullying your employees and your customers

I have been working at D&B full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Company is growing rapidly and they offer movement within. Salary plus base.

    Cons

Commission structure allows for too many ways to lose your hard earned commssions. Can not see or track clawbacks. Goals are based on various campaigns and distributed to associates not goaled for it. Pay is a fraction of what it use to be and managers treat employees as if they are disposable. No policies to enforce equal treatment of employees. Service reps are goaled and work against sales reps. Customers are not getting their services fulfilled and cancel them as a result. HIGH turn over.

    I worked at D&B

    Pros

The company still has a great reputation. The database and coverage far exceeds what the competition has to offer. Pay and benefits are OK.

    Cons

Bosses are called leaders but none of them are. They manage by fear. No one seems to care about customer service. Favoritism is rampant.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get rid of the short term focus. Start taking care of customers and employees. Stop changing customers reps every year. With the way the company is run the reputation won't last long.

Sad story of a great brand that is cashed out by current senior management and shareholders

I have been working at D&B

    Pros

    Colleagues are nice and helpfull
    Good work life/balance
Good relationships with big international customers
    Intrinsically an interesting secor.
People with long tenure and deep experience

    Cons

The ONLY thing that matters is pulling out as much cash as possible. Of course, this is the main goal of every company, but D&B has streched the notion of what is meant by 'managing for the short run'. If your idea does not have a payback time of 2 quarters, it will never make it. Resources are completely outdated and malfunctioning. The most essential business expenses are refused. Lots of lipservice, but in essence an empty box. Thin air re-invented.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you are in the business of data, it is rather silly to call a project to integrate ancient databases a Strategic Investment. Especially if the "investement" is roll out over 3 years, and represents not even 4% of total generated revenue over that period. I know cardboard companies that invest a higher percentage of sales in R&D, and guess what, they dont call themself an innovative company. Maybe the fact that if you type in Dun & Bradstreet in google, one of the first suggestion is 'Dun & Bradstreet scam' should be a small warning sign that someting must be dysfunctional in your organization. The fact that we hit a scandal in China recently, is merely the effect of giving people ultra short incentive schemes to get as much sales in, no matter what. You get what you pay for. Sad story.

    Cons

    a horrible company and experience

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

treat your inside sales people as people, allow variances in goals for time taken off. pay a fair commission and stop the nepotism involved in management

I have been working at D&B

    Pros

It is a recognized brand and good to know how the data is generated.
Flexible work environment for family, etc.
Some good people for building your network

    Cons

Culture is EXTREMELY political. Skills and performance mean nothing if you aren't buddy buddy with senior managers.

No clear vision or teamwork within various groups and strategy seems to be a foreign word.

Work tends to be more fire drills and band-aids then executing on a well-thought out plan.

Stay away if you want a rewarding career and growth. If you are looking for a place to go 5 years until you retire, then D&B is for you!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put people in job where they actually have experience. It seems like every senior manager came from Finance. Nothing against Finance, but you would think that an operations VPor a product VP would have at least some background in Operations or Product.

    I worked at D&B

    Pros

They offer a decent benefits package. That's about it.

    Cons

So unorganized. Had 5 bosses in less than a year. They beg you to be open and honest and then stab you in the back. You go through this insanely quarterly review process and if you meet you goals they always come up with a reason to low ball your ratings. BS. The worst place I ever worked. Don't accept a job there. You will regret it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When an upper manager in HR (from Pepsi) in less than 6 weeks, that should tell you something. Pay more attention to the folks bringing the money into the doors and less about your stock options. They don't care about their employees at all.

    Pros

in general they don't work you too hard. mostly because decision making is so concentrated that it takes a while to get anything approved.

    Cons

senior management does not understand the business and has no interest in growing it.

senior management is evaluated and compensated completely differently than rank and file, yet they claim to teamwork as a core virtue...go figure

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

retire and get someone in there that can save the business before you completely drive it into the ground...or sell it to someone else that cares.

    Pros

Awesome business model, some very prestigious clientele, changing financial times and new technologies

    Cons

    Micro managing boss
Stops you at door and asks "Why are you leaving so early"!
Do a fantastic job, and it's a "silent acknowledgement" Mess up just once and it's almost a public rebuke, reminds you of your High School Principal pulling up on an errant kid.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Run a company, not your High School.

Steve, stop selling company stocks ahead of quarterly results, sends out a bad signal, you know ?!
