    Pros

Smart people, minimal politics, interesting work to be done, flexibility to work on different things and even different industries as the project landscape and client base is always changing. It's not hard to get the tools you need to do your job.

    Cons

A small company feel is beginning to fade, the beginnings of corporate-ness are beginning to show.
401K and bonus plan are improving but do not exceed industry minimum

    Advice to Management

Reward top performers to ensure they stick around.

    Pros

easy going overall but detached mgmt awareness and marginal first run product acceptability hurts the staff long term.

    Cons

departmental stress exists because production rework levels are excessively high and everyone needs to respond intuitively or deal with sludge flowing downhill to ease the pain.

    Advice to Management

wake up and listen to hells bells

High stress, high turnover, fun for a short time experience but not long term employment.

    Pros

Competent people to work with. Variety of projects from all industry. Opportunity for learning a lot if time allows. Flexible work environment. Easy going owners.

    Cons

Stressful and demanding place to work. The client has all the say. You will be the last person everything false on whether it's an ill scoped project with unrealistic schedule or something went wrong in meeting the requirement the client had (which is always changing). Too much management and layers upon layers of it. Incompetent managers that move up to position based on how well they please upper management.
Some backstabbing culture is there. You always have to watch your back.

    Advice to Management

Reduce the amount of management. Be realistic and honest with clients. Slow down on growth objectives. Keep an eye on employee morale and culture. It seems to be eroding.

    Pros

Diverse technical challenges for all disciplines driven by dire need for solutions for desperate clients who can't do it on their own. Owners are great people and have good intentions for everyone. Technical staff is for the most part ex HP'ers which makes for good culture environment. HR, IT, and all supporting staff are outstanding.

    Cons

Middle management (especially directors) tend to base their decisions on who works on what project based on favoritism. If you are lucky, you are in the favored crowd. If you are not, might as well find yourself another place to work. You will be miserable.
Scope and schedule on incoming projects are always way off in favor of hooking clients in for business. Everyone including the client suffer. Management is dishonest with clients and and sometimes staff.
Too much rank and order. Not everyone is respected equally regardless of title.

    Advice to Management

Censor the actions of managers, especially directors with an eye out for cronyism. Be realistic and honest with clients. Treat everyone equally and with respect no matter what their title or rank.

    Pros

Diverse work environment. The CEO is very down to earth. There is a lot of talented people to learn from.

    Cons

Being a contract engineering firm, they are not very apprehensive about hiring sub-standard personnel to fill positions to get a project rolling forward. They are still small, so their compensation package is lacking.

    Advice to Management

Make sure that first and foremost your Project Managers are good engineers. Too many projects have run the wrong direction due to lack of good direction.
