I worked at DAK Americas full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great coworkers to work with who work hard and are very friendly. Work was interesting at times. Learned some new technology and processes. Good stepping stone and place to get some experience then move on after a few years.

    Cons

Pay did not match Crazy schedule(rotating 12hr shifts) or skill set for operating very complicated machines and being responsible for key processes. No differential pay for working 12hr night shifts or weekends. Management constantly pushes for more quantity and quality with less time or money being spent on an outdated plant needing a major overhaul. Very little room to move up or even laterally from the QC Lab. Sometimes you are scheduled for mandatory training on your day(s) off after already working 3 or 4 12hr day/night shifts.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Invest in the employees and you will see a huge change in the morale and motivation for them to go the extra mile. Fix the equipment or buy new and don't push for quick results with broken or malfunctioning equipment. Company needs to adopt a work schedule other than rotating shifts because it severely takes away from personal life and family.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Listen to employees
    Create opportunities for advancement
Please be honest about positions when interviewing potential candidates. It's sad when the truth comes out about a question asked during an interview and it's not what management said.
Make all employees no matter their title be accountable for their actions.

I worked at DAK Americas full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Compensation is okay and benefits are a little better than average.

    Cons

The Peter Principle is strong with this one. Management is rarely ever hired based on their ability to actually manage.

Success is based on quantity, not quality. So, Projects tend to range from buggy unmaintainable messes to complete failures with the bar being set ever lower to accommodate them. Of course this amount of success means that most projects only implement a fraction of the original requirements and require years of regular maintenance to limp along. Management doesn't particularly care as long as it can be reported as done and added to their list of yearly accomplishments.

I have been working at DAK Americas full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Descent pay and benefits with those benefits beginning immediately on the date of employment. On site nurse and EMTs for emergency response.

    Cons

Excessive pressure place on most employees to meet unrealistic expectations. Huge difference in how bonuses are paid out between salaried and hourly employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Change bonus system; treat employees more like team members instead of treating them like they really don't need them.

I have been working at DAK Americas

    Pros

Great people, good pay, wonderful benefits. That's about it, but I have a twenty word minimum...

    Cons

Poor management. No room for advancement. If you're content with being constantly on call due to other departments refusing to preform their jobs, this is the company for you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take time to learn what your subordinates duties are before judging them. Also, stop the power grabbing. Never have I seen such a cannibalistic power hungry company.

    Cons

Current Contractor - Cod in Leland, NC
Current Contractor - Cod in Leland, NC

I have been working at DAK Americas as a contractor (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Pay is ok, but still not on par with competitors.
Paid time off is on par with competitors.
    Direct employee benefits are good

    Cons

    Contractor benefits poor.
Long term contract workers (10-15 years at same site) treated as dispensable.
Management reacts to situations rather than planning for the future because their hands are tied from a corporate level.
Management tends to try to intimidate by using fear tactics such as, 'if you don't do this, they (corporate) may shut this place down." Of course, maybe this was more true than we think with the latest news about the Leland location...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop trying to intimidate employees. Most of us would go out of our way to work harder for someone that treated us with respect. Stop allowing nepotism and stop promoting mediocrity. Promote people who have a genuine interest in the company and in upholding moral standards in the workplace.
