    Cons

Long hours. Must be available to work 24/7.

    Pros

Some autonomy and little micromanagement beyond regulatory requirements.

    Cons

Outdated practices for records, highly bureaucratic, little change for advancement.

    Advice to Management

destroy the rigid structure and pay employees based on capability and responsibilities.

I have been working at DEA full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

International travel, rewarding work, many benefits, good health care, adequate time-off, government furnished car, unique experiences, comradery

    Cons

risk, higher level management's power is limited to make progress in the war on drugs and limiting the inherent risk of the job because they refuse to be heard in fear of political retaliation from DOJ or the White House. In other words, although illegal alien Mexican narcotics traffickers dominate the illegal drug trade in the U.S., DEA leaders won't confront the presidential administration, Congress, the press or the American public and say so, because they are looking out for themselves... their next jobs, etc. That means they really aren't leading in a meaningful way at all.

    Advice to Management

See above and grow some cohones. Being a leader means more than punishing a subordinate.

    Pros

Great organization to get on with. Much like the military co-workers become family and the training that is provided can be used both on and off the job. Smaller offices are definitely the way to go for a laid back atmosphere.

    Cons

This job position will be obsolete in a couple of years and once you are maxed out on your job series and steps there is no opportunity for moving up in your position unless you change job titles.

    Advice to Management

Develop a strategy that works and stick with it. It's difficult to meet the administrative demands when the format changes from week to week.

    Advice to Management

    Rebuild, rebuild

I worked at DEA full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Working for this agency was an experience of a lifetime. This job allowed me to help others. There is promotional potential for the person who wants to get to the top. And this job allows you to meet a lot of people. Training is available for the person who wants to learn. This job affords you to travel and/or work outside of the U.S.

    Cons

Sometimes, no matter how hard you work, it is never quite enough. Just like other agencies, there is favoritism when it comes to training and awards. it is not the agency, but individuals who are given this responsibility.

    Advice to Management

All employees should be considered for training and assignments, not just favorites. All employees should be expected to respect work hours. No one should be given special privileges (schedules, assignments, time-off).
