I have been working at DET Norske Veritas full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The values, people, and benefits are first class. For a consulting company, the pressure is lower than most and the re-investment in the people is high.

    Cons

Administrative challenges and a move toward centralization of processes (for some needed efficiency) leave each officce feeling unsupported by admin. Multiple mergers with new companies make the path forward unclear, or staggering and prohibit realizing medium-term plans, while also keeping things fresh and new.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

central authorities are bottlenecks; company values unclear after most recent merger

I worked at DET Norske Veritas

    Pros

Legacy companies were great individual performers

    Cons

In the new structure of DNV GL Energy lacks effective organizational management and continues to see declining of performance.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

In the post harmonization period, individual consultants have lost many of their ideals and need stabilization perhaps with financial rewards available.

I have been working at DET Norske Veritas full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

The work life balance is good and the learning opportunities are without boundaries. I am enjoying my days here with DNV since I have been given enough opportunities to perform.
More importantly the history of the company so far is really good and I take pride in working on such a great company.

    Cons

The salary is good but it could have been better than this.

    Pros

-Get to do what you want, when you want.
    -very hard to get fired.
    -Salary is ok

    Cons

-management is poor in leadership skills
    - lack direction
    - not as much knowledge as they claim to have
-if you are not norwegian forget about upper management positions

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train your leaders better, and not just with the BS Pier 1,2,3, etc. Most of them don't care and lack the right skills to lead. Just because you are a knowledgeable engineer doesn't mean you have the skills to lead. I spent 7 years there and saw this trend over and over again.

Some of the people are good to work with; others will smile at and talk kindly with you, but are two-faced. Guess it's like any work environment.

Improve the intranet so that employees can easily find out as to what is going in different locations and what are the expertise of different unit.

I have been working at DET Norske Veritas full-time

    Pros

Amazing group of people in the Seattle office
Great place to gain wind energy industry experience

    Cons

Very low salary relative to industry and relative to cost of living in Seattle
Benefits have been steadily shrinking since the merger with GL
Shrinking workforce in Seattle, too many bright people are leaving for better pay and benefits
Upper management focused on growing and expanding the company not focused on taking care of employees
Recent layoffs of support staff in Seattle now outsource those positions to other offices

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay employees what they're worth to others in the industry. Stop allowing so many talented people to leave without realizing changes need to be made to employee compensation.

I have been working at DET Norske Veritas full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Caring moral coworkers, possibility for travel.

    Cons

Merger chaos: upper management seemingly has no idea what is going on currently. Current mergers are removing vacation, benefits, bonuses. Pay is well below average (lowest 10th percentile) in my office. Short career tracks unless you want to become a middle manager. Managers ask you to perform ~75% chargeable work yet assign large amount of non-chargeable work, expect you to complete it on your personal time. Beginning to lack safety considerations despite fatality in 2008.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your employees demands for change or high attrition will continue.
