    Pros

Amazing group of people in the Seattle office
Great place to gain wind energy industry experience

    Cons

Very low salary relative to industry and relative to cost of living in Seattle
Benefits have been steadily shrinking since the merger with GL
Shrinking workforce in Seattle, too many bright people are leaving for better pay and benefits
Upper management focused on growing and expanding the company not focused on taking care of employees
Recent layoffs of support staff in Seattle now outsource those positions to other offices

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay employees what they're worth to others in the industry. Stop allowing so many talented people to leave without realizing changes need to be made to employee compensation.

I have been working at DET Norske Veritas

    Pros

Interesting projects, interaction with many clients in the wind energy business, freedom to work independently.

    Cons

Pay is low compared to the cost of living, large overhead burden and difficult access to senior management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company is very diverse, which can be good in many ways, but hinders growth in key areas due to the burden of other groups.

  7.

Good company seeks conformist green-minded technologists for cubicle fulfillment.

I have been working at DET Norske Veritas

    Pros

It is a global company with its eye on the ball and they are reasonable about goals and profits. There are possibilities to work abroad and it pushes a global perspective on business and attempts to steer clients to winnable strategies -- they focus on 'risk management' so this should be no surprise. The benefits are better than USA standard.

    Cons

It remains a corporate entity and while flexible as the local management allows, there remains a whopping amount of rigmarole that comes with it. I like my coworkers and what I do, though not the sleep schedule on the job so much, but more than 4 layers of management means few people know anything about what I do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep it as simple as possible. If there was ever a point at which you could meet a concern by instituting a procedure versus not, please decide to not implement a procedure. The whole company entity appears to be made of procedural nonsense -- though well meant.
