Nice Facility, Good People, Management is too "Old School"

    Pros

Good Benefits, Nice Office Facilities, Almost everyone is a great person.

Opportunities to make a good living (speaking from Sales perspective) but you have to put in the time to create connections and partners.

Summer Fridays are nice. Get out at 1:30pm. Good Work/Life balance.

    Cons

No room for career advancement. All of upper management has been there for 20 years+ and isn't going anywhere.

Very stuck in the ways of the past. A bit of modernization would go a long way. A lot of unnecessary meetings and the Owner/President treats his adult employees like his grandchildren. That can be both bad and good....

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create more managerial positions. Less micromanagement. Sales people should not always feel like their jobs are in jeopardy.

    Not very friendly experience

I worked at DGA Security Systems full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Installers are friendly and they are always ready to help. The most importantly you have to find a way to get along with them from the beginning.
Sadly that elderly Russians would have left but they are stuck in there since they have no other place to go. (Limited lingual capabilities)
Overall, good place to start and get some experience - then you better go and find a better place since this is going to be the dead end.

    Cons

For the minorities, the turn over rate is really high, not most of them last 6 months and over.
Management has 0 management skills; truck schedules are mess, they do not want to listen (because they are always right - so do not even try to argue because you are WRONG)
They treat installers like crap - so being yelled or cursed at is the regular routine.
Stockroom - forget it, I recently met some guys from the company, they said that the stockroom has gone worse. They always mess up the equipment. (missing or wrong parts happen every day (believe it or not but LITERALLY EVERY DAY))
You are going to work FROM 8am-5pm what equals 45 hours a week, but 5 hours overtime would not be paid.
They say we officially start at 8:30AM but try to get there at 8:10-15 (they will yell at you - like they pay for you)
On Thursdays, you can not even be at 8:01.

Discrimination is the routine either, they say tool box check or inspection, yours have to be perfect, but for the guys who worked there over 5-6 years they do not even care.
Some guys leave "officially" at 3:30-4pm and get twice as more as you would. They barely work 35 hours a week, but they get paid for 40 hours, when you do 45 hours and you get paid for 40.

New hires make almost as much as mechanics who work for the company over 3-4 years. But you know what is ridiculous that some new hires lie about their experience (in truth, they could not even hold a screwdriver), would make more money than you do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I do not know, they clearly have no clue how to manage, motivate people. At least take some business certificate programs/courses, so you could better understand people who work under your management.
Make some skill tests, give some reasonable raise to mechanics who work for 3-4 years so there would be a descent difference among new hires and mechanics.

    Pros

The Sales people are a good group and good benefits

    Cons

Management is completely dysfunctional. No one actually tells the CEO what they are thinking because they will be fired. What you apply for and what you are told you are going to do are not remotely close to the same.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Bring in a consultant that will discuss the job with your entire staff.

    Pros

    - Great work / life balance
    - No micromanagement
    - Nice office
    - Friendly staff
    - Free breakfast once a week

    Cons

    - Strict dress code
    - Not the most convenient location

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The owner enforces an old fashioned dress code. There is a need to update for today's times business owners in the area are not turned off if your shirt not blue or white.

I have been working at DGA Security Systems full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great medical and dental benefits. Time flies by because of the amount of work. i get out of work at 4pm with weekends off and 9 paid holidays.

    Cons

The job description you apply for is only 20% of what you will be doing. Your also a Maintenance manager, mailroom clerk, mail delivery service, laundry sorter, key maker, fire sign maker, tool box creation, installer are like wining children; so know that 1 portion of your job is actually babysitting and anything else asked of you. The company is not willing to make changes. They are set in their ways. Stockroom is a mess due to over ordering or ordering items that are never used but never returned either. Full stockroom is about 40% wasted space. Company also uses it as a closet for multiple people/departments. They are not willing to pay the amount for the actual job your doing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Use the stockroom for what its for

    Pros

Stable, good benefits, reasonable hours, good managers, generally pleasant coworkers.

    Cons

At times, inefficient workflow/decision process due to the higher-ups having to approve every little detail:"bureaucratic red tape". Also, it's a fairly conservative company.

I worked at DGA Security Systems full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

nice uniforms, clean offices, sales staff and human resources staff are great.

    Cons

The Installation staff is unwelcoming, there is no training as promised, they throw you out into the field and the way you learn depends on the person who they pair you with and whether or not they want to teach you or not, 99% of the technicians are russian speaking and do not talk to outsider's in the truck and on the job they do not speak english and its rude.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire more minorities it seems as though all mechanics are russian and all helpers are new russian speaking and very few minorities. I cant count the black and hispanics with my hands

I have been working at DGA Security Systems full-time

    Pros

Great benefits, pay is OK, average hours.

    Cons

Upper management can be hit or miss, some are very approachable, others won't give you the time of day. Extremely meticulous paperwork (don't miss a period). Strict dress code. High turnover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't play so much of the politic game, work on welcoming people into the DGA "family" better, most of all: realize this is a job for most of us and not a complete way of life.

    Pros

Etremely lenient absence policy. If you want to take off half of the year, this is the perfect company for you.

    Cons

Having a title and actually doing the work associated with that title are two very different beast. In this day and age, companies on the up and up are fostering owenership of role, which means you see your job through from concept to completion. Micro-managing or better yet micro-jobbing is a thing of the past. Let your employees do what they are trained to do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The structure of your company needs to be re-visited.
