Pros
Captial purchases made to boost efficiency; Out of box ideas solicited; new talent brought on board; Investment made for business growth
Cons
Unwillingness and inability to get buy-in from labor union employees and union leaders-result was rapid decline of pro-growth initiatives and management moral;Compensation lower than competitive opportubities-loss of talent resulting
Advice to Senior Management
Push hard to move labor unions to buy-in and work with management to increase growth of business; Take a hard line stance in needed.
Pros
Large Global company with job opportunities around the world. Main office in Europe continues to develop leading technlogy and is a leader in green programs. Leading logistics company in the World.
Cons
United States operations have experienced financial challenges in the past 4 to 5 years. DHL has downsized it;s United States operations to focus on their core business of international shipping. The downsizing in the United States will limit job opportunities and career advancement for several years.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to focus on the core business of international shipping and be the premier provider for this service in the United States. Continue to right size the US operations to develop a stable structure and grow through normal business growth.
Pros
A steady paycheck in the current economy. Tight knit group to work with in a decent environment. Flexible with vacation schedules.
Cons
Lack of respect for long term employees. Being laid off after almost ten years of service by someone who came in and impersonally broke the news rather than direct management.
Advice to Senior Management
Respect is earned rather than demanded of. Truth and honesty go a long way as well as a bit of compassion for the situation at hand. Please respect those that have to leave have families to support.
Pros
I enjoy working at DHL it has allowed my to travel and meet new people. DHL is not shy about sending employees to different parts of the world for meetings and training.
Cons
Long hours during peak season October through early January. With the economic slowdown it seems that there is less and less growth opportunities.
Advice to Senior Management
Leadership is solid from and information technology stand point. This issue have often been with the BIT and operations personal.
Pros
Good starting pay.
Tuition Reimbursement.
Fast-paced environment, but you don't have to take your work home with you.
Boot vouchers provided for safety boots.
Good benefits.
Cons
Long hours during holiday seasons.
Promotions based on brown-nosing and not ability.
Job stability--they keep moving the entire operation!
Outdoor working conditions.
Advice to Senior Management
How many times are you going to move the entire CVG operation in a 10 year span? You're already at #3! Instead of being greedy and moving to ILN in 2005 you should have stayed at CVG and kept your loyal employees and a higher level of service. Promote people based on ability, not on how popular they are. Give back more to the community.
Pros
Great place for letting you make decisions and implement new ideas. Very understanding depending on supervisor, to get time off when needed.
Cons
Very large company, you are only a number, there is no loyalty towards employees but expected loyalty toward company.. Very little information passed on by supervisors.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen and learn
Pros
This company values its employees in regards to salary as well as benefits. It is very much a community environment with plenty of activities and get togethers.
Cons
This company did employ some people that were totally useless. These people really hurt the company's bottom line, which is why only a small portion of the company is still in the US.
Advice to Senior Management
Mangement should weed out the dead weight and focus on retaining productive employees. Even some of the management employees were over paid and did very little for the company.
Pros
Great people, supportive atmosphere, good working environment. Strong local management.
Cons
Poor executive leadership. The U.S. is a revolving door for global managers climing the career ladder. Little commitment since they know they will be on the bigger and better things later. They rush projects without through evaluation, which usually ends in disaster.
Advice to Senior Management
Slow down and communicate to employees more clearly.
Pros
good people who cared about their job that made the job pleasant. decent pay once you reach top pay but takes many years to get there.
Cons
too many chefs in the kitchen (supervisors and upper management ) mis managment of accounts in undercutting their competitors( ups -fed ex )which led to their downfall in u.s. supervisors and managment not qualifield were put in to those positions of who they know.managment did not care about the worker just service, very degrading and try to put intimidation toward the worker to get production.company ruined many lives who spent a good number of years andt kicked them to the curb with mass layoffs do to their incompetance.
Advice to Senior Management
try taking suggestions from the workers who are actully doing the work and stop looking at numbers to make yourselfs look good.
Pros
Initially when thought DHL would succeed in the US there was high moral within the company. There are many nice and competent persons at DHL.
Cons
When it was obvious that DHL could not compete management didn't share the information sufficiently and many of us were blindsided with prompt layoffs. Many persons in Senior management were not competent and held the positions anyway. They mistreated their subordinates after using them to receive acknowledgment and did away with them when they were no longer an asset and more of a threat when it became obvious to their senior manager who really knew what was going on.
Advice to Senior Management
not applicable since the company will be leaving the US market in a few months
