Advice to Senior Management
Do something about the morale!
Pros
Global Company, presence in all continents. The biggest (and only) reall Pro that I had was that HQ are close to my home).
Cons
Did not received a performance review during my three years there. HR Directors and VP were always secretive, doors behind. People is more focused on to the basics at getting the job done than on building real foundations for DHL to stand in the US market. The promotion scale is strongly based on the "who do you know" rule rather than on any real performance.
Advice to Senior Management
- Executives: Stop going on vacation! You spent 4 weeks/year on company paid vacactions on average but really take twice as much without reporting that.
- Directors: Focus on the people at the company, not only on the golf match against your peers or VPs at jacaranda lakes!.
- Managers and Analysts: Stop the practice of "anything goes" when it is about climbing the corporate ladder by backstabbing your coworkers!
Pros
If you do not want to work hard, DHL is the place to get away with it. If you spend enough time at Cornerstone 3, you will get promoted.
Cons
There is complete disregard for hiring or promoting on qualifications. One should expect a financial person to have education and experience in Finance or Accounting. One should expect an IT person to have IT credentials. One should expect a Sales Executive to have Sales credentials. One should expect Leadership to extend themselves beyond their direct reports. There is a practice of promoting friends and family, instead of merit and experience.
Advice to Senior Management
There is not much to say when the leadership is registering single digit approval ratings. The best and most qualified have been let go and the rest are just waiting through the recovery.
Pros
Large Global company with job opportunities around the world. Main office in Europe continues to develop leading technlogy and is a leader in green programs. Leading logistics company in the World.
Cons
United States operations have experienced financial challenges in the past 4 to 5 years. DHL has downsized it;s United States operations to focus on their core business of international shipping. The downsizing in the United States will limit job opportunities and career advancement for several years.
Advice to Senior Management
Continue to focus on the core business of international shipping and be the premier provider for this service in the United States. Continue to right size the US operations to develop a stable structure and grow through normal business growth.
Pros
This company values its employees in regards to salary as well as benefits. It is very much a community environment with plenty of activities and get togethers.
Cons
This company did employ some people that were totally useless. These people really hurt the company's bottom line, which is why only a small portion of the company is still in the US.
Advice to Senior Management
Mangement should weed out the dead weight and focus on retaining productive employees. Even some of the management employees were over paid and did very little for the company.
Pros
DHL Express has a great benefits package and at my level has a management bonus plan that really is a good incentive. Work / Life is not a problem for me - I do really like my job, and my mangement is supportive of my needs balanced against some travel and other work related needs - basically, I give my all to work and then on other occasions I step away.
Cons
The really senior upper managment in FL and in Bonn really did a poor job managing the US expansion and never changed course even when 2 or 3 years of doing the same thing didn' t have the desired results.
Advice to Senior Management
When you plan is not working, please change your plan, don't do the same thing year after year and expect that you'll get better results.
Pros
Unfortunately, a very negative environment has been created within DHL Express by a senior management that has completely written off the US market and is unconcerned with the long term reputation of the company or the satisfaction of the workforce.
Cons
Senior management that is antagonistic to dissent. Only "yes men" will survive in this organization. Everyone remaining within the organization merely hangs on for the benefit of a pay check. The workforce and staff are completely demoralized. This is the direct result of exceedingly poor leadership.
Advice to Senior Management
Go elsewhere to allow a new, creative team capable of providing true leadership to run the organization.
Pros
pay bills, there are worst places.....
Fedex and UPS
Cons
poor management, poor management, ect.
Advice to Senior Management
SOB......sorry but is the reallity; terminate all upper managgement, get peopple who know what are doing, dont do the contract with UPS, hired your own drivers , investigate management that is probably doing things pocketing money and over spending specially "management that are accountants "
KEY Word { ACCOUNTANS }
