Pros
The training was sufficant to do a decent job, if you get the right trainer, you might even be motivated coming out of the extended training. I loved the PTO rules and how overtime and getting to leave early worked! No room for favoritism, just first come first serve. The managment seems to be very focused on diversity, so the LGBT community please apply for managment! (only slightly exaggerated)
Cons
The inconsistantcy with the 'stats' or QA. The privleged and few QA associates sit on a mountain top, having forgot what it's like being in the trenches, actually having a client on the phone. Unrealistic QA standards is why almost everyone I worked with for over a year is gone, the trend at the time seemed to be transitioning from Cust service to Company service.
Advice to Senior Management
Recognize potential in everyone, work with their individualness, allow room for more than just the standard personality. Sometimes getting a different kind of person can succeed with difficult clients where the standard blase individual willnot.
Pros
Free Directv is the only benefit. No other reason to work for this company unless you want stress and humiliation.
Cons
Horrible Training & Trainers.
Employees treated like numbers instead of humans.
Believe everything you hear about the Machine mentalitly. It's true.
Very Stressful.
No benefits.
They only care about the employees meeting their bottom line.
Thee most horrible company/call center I have ever worked for.
Job seeker Beware!
My advice: Try it if you don't believe me.
Advice to Senior Management
None. I am just happy to be free of this company.
None. I am just happy to be free of this company.
Pros
Industry leader. Exciting time in industry. Lots of opportunities to grow and to follow interests within the company. Young, energetic workforce. Great offices (location).
Cons
Slow to change. Future is challenged by limits of its technology. CTO is out-of-date and needs fresher, bigger ideas. Some areas are very bureaucratic.
Pros
Willing to improve and a well established company with good leadership. They are an industry leader that will be aournd for a long time.
Cons
not fully mature so there are plenty of things to change and improve upon. Sometimes management doesn't take time to look at the big picture. It is all about execution.
Pros
Free DTV, Good Bennies, Good pay
Just an observation... all of the reviews list these listed above as the best things of DTV employment
HMMMM coincedence? I think Not
Cons
Mgt. is very willing to criticize or hand down ECF (Employee corrective Action Form) but some praise is hard to come by, In my particular field of work i am tasked with fixing all mistakes and/or faulty installation/ equip issues, i am told spending to much time fixing but it needs to be done to ensure longevity and service of system. Told to cut corners but not which corners to cut (to protect supervisors/mgt from liability) then handed corrective action when i decide the wrong corners to cut.
Other team members doing much worse with no actions against them
Beautiful Numbers, C-Sat etc.
Advice to Senior Management
Have some compassion for the hardships of your em[ployees, A happy employee is far more productive than a fearful one. I want nothing more than the direction a manager or supervisor is supposed to supply to their staff, i want to be a good employee but no one seems to be able to instruct me in the right direction. Please Advise
Pros
1. Pay is decent. But not the best. However, the benefits are excellent including a zero deductible medical plan. Who has that anymore?
2. Free DIRECTV to employees!
3. Competent management at a company that does a great job of ensuring security for the future.
4. Management is approachable and easy going for the most part.
5. Well structured company with very clear lines to management from any position.
Cons
Not a lot to say here. Overall, the best company I've worked for by a long shot! I should never have quit! There are a couple of things though.
1. Lots of red tape. Sometimes hard to get things done. To be expected in such a huge company. However, it is rare that a company takes a hard look at this and attempts to make changes. DIRECTV is very good in making improvements and many things got easier with less red-tape the longer I worked there.
2. Dead weight. There are a lot of ill qualified people who work here that just aren't too bright. It takes a long time to get rid of them and some are there still simply due to tenure. I'm sorry, but dead weights really annoy me so I have to mention it!
3. DBAs Hardware support people all of a tude. Typical God complex. However, you can get on a DBA or Admin's good side by one of two ways: a.) go drink with them b.) just be on your a game when you interact with them for any reason. You will earn their respect.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep it up! Leadership is doing a wonderful job here!
A few things you could work on:
1. Hire more young blood straight out of college with fresh ideas. There is a lot of transfer in big companies like directv from other large companies. I think DIRECTV could benefit from some young energetic people.
2. It's tough running call centers. You do a great job for the most part. However, I think you could give your employees at that level a lot more benefit of the doubt and respect. Treat them less like highschool students and more like professionals and they will begin to act more like professionals. I used to work in those positions, so I have to be true to where I started and mention how ill treated and ill respected I felt at times. However, with that said - great job at making the call center a fun and exciting environment!
3. Be more proactive in adopting newer technology more quickly. I mean this as an internal comment. Our customers tech is great! However, internally we are outdated in most areas.
4. Force people in administrative roles to be more accommodating and helpful. There are a lot of technical admins with tudes. This should not be tolerated. But unfortunately, they get it from their department managers in many cases.
Pros
money so so. not stable work
Cons
you are just a work horse. does not matter what you have in your personal life they will treat you like directv is the only life you should have
Advice to Senior Management
people are more than numbers. your life is more than numbers get a clue when you treat people like idivduals you will get more out of them.
Pros
Benefits, health, dental and vision
Cons
When a member of the good ol' boys are caught violating employee rights or company policy they are transferred to another site. Whereas frontline ee's are terminated.
Advice to Senior Management
Apply company policy and proceedures to all staff members including management. All too often members of management receive differential treatment than other members of staff and transfered to another location so that local site employee's don't know they are still with the company. The good ol' boy syndrome needs to go away!
Pros
Benefits and my roommates enjoy the free DTV . I actually like helping people with their issues and try and make every call positive. They will hire anyone so if you have some physical defect that other employers dislike you can always get a job here.
Cons
The customers can be as rude as they want and an agent is required to let them rant. Customers are allowed to use foul language, scream, talk on and on without interruption. An agent must be polite and listen to everything even when the language is unbelievably offensive. The turnover here is astounding and I am the only one out of 24 left from my original training class. Also you can be required to work overtime when ever they want or you will lose your job. Lastly, they change rules constantly labeling it growth but it is intended to keep agents off balance and not letting them be comfortable with their jobs. They love the fear factor.
Advice to Senior Management
If you want real growth look beyond the general csr model practiced by many call centers and figure out how to keep employees instead of being in the Trump mode of 'you're fired'. It may make your ego swell at that moment but there are consequences when hundreds of ex employees complain about the ill treatment. Actually I really think Directv is aware of the problems but continue with the same bad business practices due to lack of imagination . There isn't much growth in management as they adore the hierarchical model. Also it would be great if they stopped looking at employees as the enemy.
Pros
Free TV service. Good health benefits, Free NFL Sunday Ticket, Working and getting to know a lot of other people
Cons
Direcv doesn't care about it's employees. They make it so stressful for the employee. They are always changing policy, and if you don't find this new policy in the thousands of policies they have, you can loose your job. If someone in quality assurance doesn't like you personally, then they fail your calls to give you 0, which you in turn get fired for. They fire employees that have served them for over 10 years and hire new employees for less pay, and to get benefits from government for hiring employees. Directv is just one of the worst companies to work for. I know of someone there that lost their job when they found out they had to be off as they had just found out they had cancer and would have to have surgery. I would never recommend this place for a friend to work,
Advice to Senior Management
Start treating your employees with some respect, and the ones that were there for over 10 years have served you all that time, and you fire them to hire someone else for less money. They must have been doing a good job or they wouldn't have been there for that long.
