Pros
Free service
Good benefits including medical, dental and 401k
Cons
No room for growth
No communication between groups/depts.
Pros
Having this on your resume doesn't hurt, as it is a Fortune 500 company and employers are impressed by that. They have an annual team building in Los Angeles and it's nice.
Cons
As a web producer, you're given very little direction. The turn over rate is very high- for producers and designers. You work long hours and they don't want you to report the hours you're working if you're a contractor. So most people don't report it. The web team is ok, but overall very cliquey. They're not bad people but it's sort of like high school. They gossip a lot. The leader of the web team is smart, but this is the only place he's ever worked- and that's abundantly clear by the way he reacts to problems.
Advice to Senior Management
You should look at why the turnover rate is so high. Why are contractors treated so poorly?
Pros
Great benefits and flexible schedule.
Cons
Communication did not get passed on consistently. Goals change with little notice.
Pros
Extremely driven and passionate co-workers, people who want to make a difference in the industry, their jobs. People who want to develop others and constantly look for ways to make things better. Pretty good benefits, including 401(k) plan.
Cons
Egos and politics get in the way of smart decision making. It gets in the way of doing the right things. The chief executives are too worried about protecting their own "turf". In protecting their "turf" they do not protect the long term success of the company. Lack of respect for employees. Managers don't want to stick their necks out for good employees, regardless if they are their employees or not. Leadership would rather just watch good employees walk away and talk jobs with competitors or other companies. Executives don't want to face the reality of what's really happening in their organizations and make the tough decisions to deal with it.
Advice to Senior Management
Admit when you make a mistake and fix it. Quit playing the "Do as I say, not as I do" game. This is especially true with human resources senior leadership. They are supposed to take the lead for the culture and morale. Since Mike White and new hr people have come in, morale is worse than ever. People are leaving and no one in the executive leadership team cares or they give the perception they do not care. They don't want to see the problems and fix them. Quit being so interested in hiring who you know. Hire and keep the people that should have their jobs and make DTV a better place.
Pros
Directv does have bonuses available and decent base wages comparatively of other call centers. There are even incentives where prizes can be earned based on good performance or attendance. There are also some opportunities to apply for internal jobs and get them.
Cons
Every few months, there are shift bids and for those without much seniority that usually means getting a schedule which is less than ideal. Sometimes, the focus is so much on productivity and call times that quality customer service is overlooked or even sacrificed. It can also be extremely difficult to get a week of vacation even if the days an employee is allowed for the year have not been used up. I could not get a full week of vacation time approved four months in advance. But that comes with a large call center environment. It is hard to juggle all people's needs for vacation and the company's need for staffing.
Pros
401K and benefits such as Pension
Cons
Management style in Sales and Marketing, there is a lot of favortism and unprofessionalism.
Pros
Good technologies to work on for first 6 months
Cons
The management style is not at ll motivating and positive but rather demoralizing, demeaning and very negative. Attrition rate is very high because people cannot deal with the environment any longer. Employees are treated like children (being asked when you will be in the office and when you will leave), If you ask for 30 mins time off then they are asked to send an email before you leave and send an email when you come back. And this applies only to few team members who are not in good books of their leads. Others just sit and chat for hours and nobody cares. To succeed in this department you need to have thick skin and play the political game as well.
Advice to Senior Management
Management should evaluate the high attrition rate and see how the employees are being treated.
Pros
Free Directv from employer that includes all channels and movie channels.
Use of a company van and a gas card.
Cons
Refurbished equipment with known defects provided to customers.
Broken ladders provided for workers to use.
Complete disregard for customers and their concerns.
Advice to Senior Management
Help the employees by listening to customer concerns and problems.
Treat customers with respect and not as just another number for bragging rights!
Pros
Free programming at the highest level
Cons
Little opportunity for advancement within
When you apply for jobs, you hear nothing back
Advice to Senior Management
Weed out the cronies and start over
Pros
DIRECTV is a great product that as an employee, you can really be proud of. We have great benefits, and overall the employees are treated well. You have the opportunity to interact with many departments within the company in which you are able to build many relationships that can promote upward growth.
Cons
Some of the promotions could be designed a little more fairly for customers. For example, the 12 month rebates should be automatic, which would provide a better customer experience.
Advice to Senior Management
The national offer rebates should be instant. Customers should be able to change their equipment and packages within a certain time frame after activation, without having to pay for additional equipment or risk of losing their rebates.
