ProsTraining was so much fun, we even had time to Celebrate coworkers birthdays.
4 week training.
"Free cable" $40 dlls discount which can cover most of the bill.

ConsDealing with customers with heavy accent... Specially when working graveyard you will get calls from 1 am to 5 am.
They will force you to get their service with a 2 yr agreement and if you leave the company you will be stuck with them.
They are in constant ending contracts with channels and when you have a bigger name company wanting to raise their prices DISH simply cuts them off and we have to deal with angry customers not getting their shows.

Advice to Senior ManagementMicromanagement does not work well for the company. Management are in desperately need of educated personal and not someone that just had his/her High School diploma.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

ProsI have been here 7 years and been promoted four times. If you work you will be rewarded. Fast paced not for those who just show up to work to get a paycheck and then while about here.

ConsNo company credit card. Must share hotel rooms when traveling in groups

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep moving forward

ProsThe people - Being an operations manager you get to see the people you developed grow with the company and this gives me a sense of accomplishment. Dish takes risks on talent... I was a 19 year old kid who got promoted within 9 months, now I am a 32 year old man. This place has shown me so much over the course of almost 13 years now. One of the lessons I teach my employees are every job has its ups and downs. It’s how you ride the roller coaster. My mother is a nurse making over 100k a year and still has complaints, so my lesson is that no matter what you do there will always be issues. Again it's how you ride the roller coaster. :) My second lesson is put forth the energy and commitment and the rewards will follow.

Leadership - It takes a big man to swallow their pride and realize when the in-house is not happy and to admit there is and was issues. Now our CEO is on a mission to help fix everything. I can't ask more than that. When he speaks it feels like he is truly speaking for all of us. I can tell you in our site in El Paso. We are in a happier place then we have ever been and a lot has to do with believing in the company and the people we have working for us.

Mentorship - I have great bosses that have helped teach me new skills and look at different perspectives. My Denver boss has been the most supportive of any boss that I have ever had and that makes me want to continue to pass along to my fellow employees and work hard for them.

I think 2013 will be an even better year for Dish and its employees. You get what you what you put in.

ConsAt times we don't get to see many people continue to be successful and end up leaving our team. As said, sometimes Dish isn't for everyone.

Advice to Senior ManagementJust continue to think about all of us, and we will continue to be the heart and soul of Dish.

ProsYou meet individuals who are kind and very helpful.

ConsManagement does not fall into the very helpful category. If you introduce a great idea management quickly shoots it down cause they did not think of it.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt's a real simple truth, treat your employees as you would want your employees to treat your customers.

Former Employee – worked at DISH full-time for more than a year

ProsCo-workers are fantastic
Trainers are wonderful
Easy to get hired

Getting Hired here is very easy.
When you go to the training classes that is the best time spent here. The instructors are 100% professionals and the best people at DISH. I have never met a greater group of mentors before.
People you meet and work with are very nice

ConsHealth benefits are awful, high co pays
Toxic work environment, lack of professionalism and rampant favoritism
Work and life balance is gone, forget family time or a life.
Leads with the exception of a few are totally not fit for leadership, very unprofessional, petty, and poor managers

The bad press DISH gets is well deserved. All the reviews here have nuggets of truth in them, all of them
Nothing in training can prepare you for the idiots that call in and want service and you cannot sell to them either because they have no socials, credit, debit, or even bank accounts. The close rates on are around 28% to 30% but you have current customers, 3rd floor residents, and others you cannot close out. It is frustrating having to pitch for 15 to 30 minutes and then people have no way to pay, "make every call a sale" really? That is not happening.
The marketing department are THE even bigger idiots with misleading ads they are sending out encouraging this. "$19.99" "Up To 6 Rooms Free" "29.99"
The work is hard as it is but if you get stuck with an incompetent and inept lead it is much worse. There are some great ones but overall most are not. Some leave the building and are never around, are very poor managers that could never make it at a real management job anywhere else, play favorites with some of their own team members, and are just making the environment toxic with mind games and petty grudges.
This is only good for a temporary job as most everyone is looking while they are here to bail out.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe very CEO responded to DISH being the worst place in America to work with "That's ridiculous" THAT right there tells you management doesn't listen or care. They don't. From the floor managers all the way up to Clayton what good does it do? Want advice though, How about to making it a little more employee friendly, hire the right people to be managers because they are good managers, not because of who they know, and also make the benefits working here actual benefits. Dish TV, poor health plans, and overtime are not great benefits.

ProsIt is just a job. What can I say? Is El Paso so one must work to sustain the family.

ConsOne cannot see a future growth within the company unless one brown-nose or knows someone in upper management starting with the friends of Mr. Charlie Thomas (Director of Service).
Upper management pressures their employees to work 10 hours a day with entrance times at a ridiculous four in the morning. Some of the employees have stated that they would work 12 hours for the company if they were given the opportunity to go in at 7 am, which I completely agree with. Furthermore, there is a lack of motivation for the employees that since 2007 have not had a company picnic, Thanksgiving dinner, or Christmas events. How do they expect employees to feel motivated if they have nothing to look for but a paycheck. They should look forward to being rewarded instead of being told everything that they are doing wrong through "write-ups" or "memos". That provides for a stressful environment as employees are given their yearly appraisals not based on the good work they have done but on the negative write-ups or memos received during the year. If for any reason one is promoted the raise given is ridiculous unless of course you brown nose the big bosses. There are some supervisors that work up to 12 to 13 hours a day 5 days a week and they don't get pay any over time this is an abuse from this company. Dish is already looking forward to work 7 days a week!!!! Are they crazy?

Advice to Senior ManagementMr. Clayton, management should start working in reviewing the table of salaries that are in place at Dish and make them as fair as possible. People should be treated as that not as robots. They are overworked and underpaid. There should also be extensive managerial training for upper management on how to positively motivate employees. In addition to this, there should be an increase in the activities they have for the employees. When promoting someone make sure the monetary compensation is in accordance to the level of responsibility given due to the promotion, the supervisors are underpaid.

ProsManagement seemed to be fairly caring; good training; on site food service; some good supervisors; company had very good equipment and a great product(s) to offer customers

ConsPay not great; policies changing fairly often (a problem with a lot of call centers), promises made about positive changes by management seemed to take forever to implement

Advice to Senior ManagementLabor is a big chunk of change in your expenses but make the wages more livable for a family in Texas- rumors were that you paid an awful lot more in Colorado because you didn't have so many minorities working there.

ProsBuild you up in the interview
Build up the place as a place with opportunities

ConsDirector of Operation loves to curse out employees and berate employees in front of peers
No respect from upper management
Upper management would rather look at and nitpick the stuff that does not matter over the substance of the material
Terrible mentors; when asking for program managers for help they will always con the person by saying yes meet with me at this time, but the time never comes. Claim to have an open door, but never give guidance
Retaliation is accepted. Do not say anything negative about the Director when things are supposed to be confidential
Ethics are terrible as one will be told a situation will not affect the employee, but about a week later a counseling will ensue for that exact same thing
The place is too much about covering yourself than making a difference in the business.
Do not try and give more as there will be haters at every corner to knock you down.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe more ethical and respectful
Do not berate an employee in front of others
Do not lie constantly to employees
Go to business school to learn the basics of planning, controlling, leadership, and control.
Learn ethics in the workplace
Streamline the workforce; there are way too many people in administration and engineering who have no clue

ProsIn Texas dish will start you a few cents above minimum but within a year or two you could be making a few dollars more per hour if apply and are picked for a business ops.

ConsThere are really to many reasons to list not to work here, so I'll start with the most important. The medical insurance is horrible they pick the cheapest plan they can to offer there emplyees cost wise on there part. The insurance literally will not pay anything until you hit a 3000 dollar deductible all while still deducting priemiums biweeky from my pay check. Job security is completely out the door, dishnetwork practically threatens you to preform or you will be termed. The attrition rate has to be one of the worst in the country. They like to recruit high school students before they get any other type of job experience. This way they don't realize just how bad dish is because they have nothing to compare it to. They will use the best years of your life and spit you out when you can no longer preform as you get older. I cannot and will not ever recommend anybody to work for dish until they change there ways

Advice to Senior ManagementDish needs to start treating people like like human beings and not just an employee login. Try offering some real benefits and not just the cheapest thing dish can find. With tens of thousands of employees and billions in revenue dish could do better.

ProsOnce in a while we got to take a break from our phones and go watch presentations, or listen to someone talk. If you get a cool coach (your coach changes often) sometimes they'll let you out early, or won't penalize you for being late.
The break room was nice, comfy couches, we were able to use the internet, watch tv or fall asleep.
Always meeting new people since so many people work there.

ConsIf you get a not so nice coach, or one that is by nature grumpy and mean, your time there will not be fun. With one of my last coaches it seemed like she was always looking for every little reason to get mad at the employees.
The management wasn't really fair. Towards the end when the layoffs started, many good and fair coaches were demoted, while this particular coach kept her position. Definitely unfair, as if being cruel to employees was encouraged.
Also spanish language teams were treated with much more lenience than english language teams. Spanish speakers were consistently late logging in, and their coaches would 'fix' their times so it wouldn't count against the employees. English only people had three times and you got a write up if they did that. I sense some reverse discrimination?

Advice to Senior ManagementPay attention to how your coaches treat members on their team, just because they're getting good numbers in doesn't mean they're a good coach.
