Form great camaraderie with co-workers(due to poor treatment by upper management)

Being treated like less than human

Constantly being pushed down and the bar being raised too high
If you like being told "there's the door" every time you disagree with or question a policy's effectiveness or purpose and then offer viable solutions/ideas, then this is the job for you. If you want to be told to "just drink the kool-aid" and "just get on board" no matter the cost, then this is the job for you. If you like to work 60+ hours per week with no overtime pay (salaried employee), then this is the job for you. If you like to put your job first when your employer puts you last, then this is the job for you. If you like to be micromanaged and told that your own management style is wrong, then this is the job for you. If you like to see high turnover and unexplainable terminations, then this is the job for you. If you like to work with untrained and unmotivated employees, then this is the job for you. If you like to work your butt off and still be told that it's not good enough, then this is the job for you. If you like to me motivated by scare tactics and you enjoy hostile work environments, then this is the job for you!
This coming from a ex-employee who quit Dish Network after 10 years, the majority of which were spent as a Field Service Manager. I held positions from a call center rep to service technician as well.
Advice to Senior Management
WAKE UP! You promote and allow your employees to be treated horrible. Quit over emphasizing being number one in customer service. You are loosing good employees and customers too, the latter I am sure you care about more. There are so many good successful companies with happy customers and even happier employees out there that aren't number one in customer service. Your attempt to attain this year after year has allowed your management to constantly put down your employees and establish ridiculous goals (metrics and Pi-a ridiculous "motivation" tool). There has to be a balance. Start recognizing what people "do" and not what you want them to do perfectly.
Realize that you employ human beings not robots or computers. You have no idea what people do on the front lines. You should participate in "Undercover Boss, " although I am not sure that you actually care enough about "people" over "profit". Or even realize that people that work for you are actually people: with families and lives outside of work.
Pay, train and recognize your employees for what they are worth and maybe you could keep them around for a while.
In this time of corporate greed you are among the worst. I can't tell you how many times I have heard "do more with less" coming down the chain of command in my old office, in reference to the workforce at Dish Network. It's sick that you threaten people's jobs for disobedience to perfection and use the economy and the fact that there are so many unemployed available to take your employees place if they don't like to be treated the way you treat them.
I hope that your under-trained, under-paid, unmotivated workforce can keep you on that ladder to success!(Sarcasm intended) I for one will have nothing to do with your company ever again and I take pride in the fact that it was my choice, not yours!(Unlike so many others that were taken advantage of by you for the last time this year.) Do you take pride in sending out so many unhappy ex-employees into the world?
Signed-an ex-employee and ex-customer.
Pros
Discounted satellite TV service
Flexibility in scheduling your week
Good life/work balance
Internet/cell phone reimbursements
Opportunity to travel on a regular basis for regional/national meetings
Fellow employees are generally very nice and easy to work with
Cons
Incompetent upper management
Promotions are based on whom specific VPs want to be in those positions and not who is better suited and qualified for the job. Sometimes promotions are just handed out without the job being posted for others to apply for. The internal interviewing process is laughable because management wastes their time, the prospects time and company money by flying/driving both to interview locations when the promoting manager already knows who is going to get the position.
Decisions are made on the fly with little or no warning or planning and the Account Managers are expected to ‘make it happen’
Deadlines and quotas that are given are ridiculously out of line with reality and timelines
Overall planning and goal setting does NOT exist at DISH Network – when upper management wakes up with what they see as a good idea, it has to happen tomorrow
The tool of motivation is threatening employment
Upper management is taking advantage of the current economic situation to increase workloads and dare anyone to say something about it
It seems that DISH is a stepping stone for most of the advance performers because unless they are ‘in’ they either settle for mediocrity in their current position or look elsewhere for career opportunities
Benefits are terrible…insurance, 401k, PTO are all in need of readjustments to complete with other national companies
Advice to Senior Management
How about we put someone in charge of the Indirect Sales force that actually values their employees and actually cares about their overall well being and satisfaction?
Don’t use fear and intimidation as a tool for motivation…increase the commission structure and make quotas attainable to keep the good AMs at DISH Network.
Stop making promotions a popularity contest with the VPs and promote the person with the skill set to accomplish the job’s responsibilities.
Make employees feel like they matter in the day-to-day running of DISH Network instead of replaceable commodities…we are people with good ideas that can grow the company…let us try!
Pros
Colleagues were nice. Work was interesting.
Cons
Management was horrible. Very poor benefits. Constant turnover. Lack of resources. Unreasonable tilt in work life balance to excessive work.
Pros
Large company.
Free basic programming.
Cons
Management is inconsistent and secretive in sharing information between employees and departments.
Company is very stingy with it's employees..
Pros
Techs are great. pay is OK as long as you can advance quickly. tools and equipment is the best in the business.
Cons
Work in all weather for as long as the boss wants to keep you out. 12 hours a day are average 14-16 are possible. A lot of driving or time in your van, you are paid for this time at your normal rate however time not working counts against your Points Per Hour that affects your bonus pay and promotion ability. it will be your fault if a customer calls in to dish within 12 days of your visit for a service call ( TC 12) REGARDLESS of the reason IE Dish equipment falls . This also will affect bonus and promotion. You truly have no control of you own destiny, it is based on luck not skill. if you complain another lifeless drone will be eager to take your place and your name will not be spoken again. I have seen many great Techs leave or be forced to leave over these issues. Why dish can not see the value of their employees is hard to understand. This is a great job if only management cared at ALL about the front line.
Advice to Senior Management
Service techs and CSR are the face of Dish Network. We are technically trained and held to the highest standards in the industry. The system in place does nothing to empower the little guy. Bonuses paid out for PRODUCTION at all cost. a review of the process could allow for equality to all. Management is completely disconnected from local offices. I have worked for many years and have never seen a cooperate boss. I have heard the have been to our office but I fined it odd I never seen one. I think employee committees would help the break the bubble of local offices
Pros
You get a check Bi-Weekly
Cons
No Respect for employees or personal time or if you voice about whats going on in the company or me anyone in a management position mad you just might find yourself with false right ups damage claims well not able to promote or see any raises talk to any kind of way with a whole of extra drama with that and no one I coop looks at that because we have a see no evil hear no evil speak no evil policy in place thats not spoke of they do not want to hear what you have to say and if its a problem work thru you could get fired for anything and you have a choice work or get fired ad get lied to and if they dont wat to deal with it. its just another box case so til Management and HR is held accountable for the actions by someone higher than inside of Dish Network we will always face whatever Dish Network put out.
Advice to Senior Management
Respect goes a long way, Better pay helps us take care of our familys and Please quit someone else to blaim start with upper management and stop giving us faulty equipment and exspecting employees to be held to a higher standard than what you are willing to be held to and remember that a happy employee is a productive employee so stop dogging all of your employees in all departments we would really like that!
Pros
Great co-workers and great environment
Cons
Long hours, complicated jobs due to fixing other installer mistakes
Pros
pay check
health insurance
sick days
exercise
work schedule varies
Cons
Shady business practices
job advancement a personality contest
no teamwork encourage and reward attacking your co workers
benefits health insurance not great and cost high
long hours and schedule changes with less than 24 hour notice
can't use sick days without getting fired for being sick
Pros
For the internship position, I was given a lot of responsibility and a lot of exposure to senior management. I was very impressed with the respect I was given by both normal and high-level employee, and really could not have asked for a better experience.
Cons
While I highly recommend the internship, the full-time position is not quite as rosy. Positions tend to be at the low end of the market average, with an inconsistent and subjective promotion schedule for employees. There is little opportunity to move up, mentorship is neglected, and the common view is that "if you want to move up in the company, join someone else for awhile and then come back."
Advice to Senior Management
Provide a leadership development program for new hires and encourage your management to collaborate a little better between departments.
Pros
The pay is reasonable and the benefits are good.
Cons
You are not able to choose the schedule that you will be working. This makes it difficult to have time for your life outside of work. Also, taking ANY time off is a major problem even in a serious situation.
