Totalitarian Management, if you are not the selected, forget about advancement

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Johnstown, PA

ProsGreat family oriented place to live,

ConsNo reward or recognition for successful projects. Everything is fine as long as the company benefits but sours when you need something. Get it going in the door because you will not get it after your in. Get everything in writing because it will change after the fact.

    Advice to Senior Managementstart over!

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

DRS Laurel Technologies--great place to work--few faults

Security Officer (Current Employee) Johnstown, PA

ProsThis company seems very stable. The benefit package offered to full-time employees is exceptional for this area. Every employee can choose the medical plan fits their own needs. The co-pay is fair for each plan. I haven't seen too many employees who have a difficult time catching on to the job get fired. The company would rather help most through their difficulties and keep them employeed.

ConsPay rates for factory employees are not as good at this location, as other divisions of DRS. Priorities for getting things done seem to be a problem. Things that are important seem unimportant. As long as when visitors come in and it looks good, it passes. Evaluations are not rated on job performances but on a "popularity" basis. Communication with H.R. is difficult. Sometimes no response at all.

Advice to Senior ManagementCertain jobs should be paid at the same rate. All the employees do the same duties. Longevity should not be included in the hourly rate, it should be paid as a bonus. Get someone to manage the H.R. dept. who has concern for the employees and not trying to make things look good. When you report to the employees of how well the company did, financially, reward the employees who actually do the work.

Decent place to start, but don't expect to grow your career

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsIt is a job in this economy, which is a plus no matter what. For someone with no experience there is also a good chance you can get on with this company and cut your teeth.

ConsVERY political, which always impedes progress. It is also very erratically managed, the direction even from the very top changes weekly so you people working many hours only to accomplish very little. Another CON is that very basic business practices are viewed as this "new" strange concept, or sometimes overlooked altogether.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet back to the basics. Find simple effective ways of tracking/managing inventory, cash flow, budget, and schedule. Do not spend hours figuring out how to present the erroneous data you have, spend hours figuring out how to ensure the data is consistently correct, and a method which makes the data easy to access. If the data is consistently correct, the rest is easy.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
