  1. Very strong in sales, short sighted in spending. Lack of appreciation for human assets outside route sales.

I have been working at DS Services of America full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Job security - very few cut backs or downsizing
    Steady work all year long
    Excellent benefits -
Quality products - and strong customer focus (verbally)

    Cons

Excessive expectations regarding work load - especially for low and mid level management
Very tight with capital investment in buildings and grounds

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the front line when they are telling you that they care and want to perform better, but are unable to due to restrictions on raw materials, equipment, over time. The view from 30,000 feet is very different from the view on the street. We want to succeed because of Corporate decisions, not despite them.

I have been working at DS Services of America full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Nearly impossible to get fired (job security?), excluding the fact that they are closing all call center locations...

Many of your co-workers are great people who, given other circumstances, would be excellent employees.

    Cons

A "good enough" approach to employee performance ensuring marginal employees staying and those with any initiative jumping ship.
No possibilities for advancement, no clear process for moving up.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees are what YOU make of them through training, support and a well defined structure of expectations. Support their efforts to succeed and excel in their work and careers. They will be with you 100%. Lead by example, follow through with plans of action and cut the dead weight. Accept responsibility for issues at hand and work to resolve them. In my time there, multiple REGIONS have gone without services customers pay for. The regional locations and customer service reps are left hung out to dry, fielding very reasonable questions with absolutely no answers other than to push the truth or outright lie. C'mon folks, it's water delivery.

In regards to my "pro" above, if a company hires, promotes and retains mediocrity, that is exactly what you become. Some of the supervisory staff is 10+ years in the same role, much like some customer service reps. This blocks promotions in a huge way and begs the question, "if they've been able to hang on, why haven't they moved on?" Unacceptable behavior is the norm with nothing more than a slap on the wrist 90% of the time.

Bottom line, wouldn't recommend as an employer and DEFINITELY wouldn't be a paying customer.

    Pros

Employees below management level are great to work with.

    Cons

Company upper management has NO CLUE what they are doing. Chaos throughout the company form the frontline to customer service. NO ONE takes responsibility/accountability for their actions or errors. NO ONE seems to fix any issues or care to. Company lets the RSR's and CSR's fend for themselves when customers are outraged over issues regarding consistent system issues/errors, product shortages, company caused billing issues, routing issues, the list goes on. When issues are brought to management attention nothing is done and you are pretty much given a "yeah, yeah, I'll pass it a long". Whom are we passing it along to, because they aren't taking care of it either. You are expected to basically lie to customers and tell them issues will be taken care of all the while your hands are tied and some issues just can't be taken care of at the moment. Promising calls to customers that they will never get from management, your expected to constantly follow up on an account because but not really given the time to follow up on issues because there are always 200-500 calls on hold. Several branches are always out of commission or severely behind due to not enough drivers, not enough coolers, the drivers are fed up! This company looses 100's of employees a day and how do they replace the numbers to look good to investors? They purchase smaller water companies to build back up the numbers. The most recent company that made the mistake of purchasing the company? COTT, the company that brings you the worst tasting cola out there, RC Cola. The company boasted about bringing 500 jobs to a town called Lakeland in FL but did not tell you that they are laying off about 500-600 employees in both CA and GA. They promoted people to use them as a pawn to save the jobs of others only to "dissolve" their new postilion. They also boasted about the new promotions and then notified employees of the "consolidating of call centers" in the same email. Thanks for that one. They also would not have even notified the agents of the layoff had it not been found out through employees via researching the internet once rumors started that there might be call center closure. All the while upper management would answer questions with "No, nothing is happening. Your jobs are fine. This scare always comes up when a new investor buys the company". This company has been on the decline for years. I'm surprised that they actually have any customers left. Read the reviews on YELP.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn that by taking care of your employees, your employees will take care of your customers. You have so many angry employees and customers but you can't see past all of the corporate greed. You all are the worst kind of scum on earth.

    Pros

Working on your own 98% of the time. coworkers were awesome to work with.

    Cons

Half of the routes don't generate enough money for the work and hours you put in.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase pay rate and find ways to service big accounts more efficiently.

    Pros

    The handful of friendly staff

    Cons

High school like environment. Management gossips way too much. This place can't even spell professional. There is no room to grow. It took a supervisor 12 years to reach position. It felt like someone sucked the energy out the property. It's a very sad place to work in. Barely happy faces around. I enjoy working as a CSR and having the ability to help customers, but the constant "Im sorry for the inconvenience" was too redundant. Nothing to solve the problem! Customers complained 100% of the time. No exaggeration. Part time 12.50 in Flowery Branch near Gainsville. Run far away!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Terminate yourselves or change the attitude and follow by policy! Professionals would run away like me for trying to deceive customers.

    Pros

Reasonable pay for job duties and you don't have management breathing down your neck while you're working

    Cons

The pay isn't good, $25k plus commission but you can't make very much in commission, driving sometime long distances

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Restructure the pay for the hours

    Pros

health insurance was good, old beat up vans had air conditioning.

    Cons

Discriminated against people who lived in apartments, mobile homes, public housing,...if we knocked on your door to offer service and you were home...it was because you were unemployed. Management was more like a dictatorship, I voted this my worst job I ever had.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit and see if you can make it somewhere else, you wont be able to give what you demand!!!

    Pros

Great pay! Fun interaction with customers. Not stuck in a cubicle

    Cons

No equipment but still expected to sell. Management repeatedly let's branch run out of water coolers and brewers but expects sales to still sell. Commission plan is based on rental of equipment. Management repeatedly fails to support employees with brochures and business cards. Disorganization and outright penny pinching of upper management makes the job confusing and stressful. Prime example, we are a water company but have not had bottles to put water in. This has happened numerous times. Once proud company that is now a joke.

    Pros

You get freedom, people are great, everyday is a different challenge. Pretty good work life balance.

    Cons

Need better training program in place, conspiring the size of the company. Hand held devices are really horrible and need to be replaced as of 2 years ago.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

A company the size of this one, should have a training program in place, not just relying on other employees that are available. Need to have a better system in place for hand held updating more regular. All of the management team needs to have smart phones to access emails as needed.
