    Pros

Ds Waters was like a family type job no matter who leaves the company always return for a visit, great opportunity , if I had a chance to go back I might consider it only because of the people.

    Cons

The challenge is learning Oracle, wasn't user friendly and some National customers.

I worked at DS Waters of America full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Good benefits, Vacation, 401K plan, OK pay once at top commission rate

    Cons

High turnover rate for Route Operations and Sales positions. Poor managment at field level due to constant churn of employees and lack of training. Poor entry level pay and long hours. 12-15 hours per day is not uncommon for new hires. Senior managers are afraid of their own shadow as many have either been downsized or reassigned to other useless positions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior managers from the Regional Manager level to CEO are not in tune with the frontline staff. They spend countless hours focusing on cost cutting measures and finding ways to squeeze more EBITDA out of a declining water sales trends and selling low margined products that nobody wants. Pressure to sell these useless items has forced many employees to cut corners to avoid the wrath at check-in.

The company continues to suffer with the lack of basic necessities for the route drivers and sales teams to be successful.
    1. No bottles for our customers due to poor CAPEX planning
    2. No water coolers to fill new customer orders. Some COSTCO customers have to wait a month to get started.
    3. Bad equipment and trucks
    4. No spare vehicles

CEO is feared as many managers have been downsized or or reassigned causing the company to always be afraid.

I have been working at DS Waters of America part-time for more than a year

    Pros

    the pay is not bad

    Cons

training is lacking after your initial training class which is about 4 or 5 weeks. Pay is good but only part-tie in the beginning. You really have to have very good quality & attendance record to get fulltime but even then there may be a lot of people in front of you waiting to get fulltime. No room for advancement, there have been CSR taking calls for 8 years & you can only make up to a certain amount per hour if you remain a CSR

I have been working at DS Waters of America full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - Good benefits
    - Very flexible company

    Cons

    - Advancements are based on who you know not what you know
    - Employees off the street come in making more money than employees that have been with the company for years.
    - Management positions are often given to outsiders
    - Annual raises are little to nothing

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Train, prepare, and consider current employees for higher level positions

I worked at DS Waters of America full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Flexibility of schedule, every residence and business is a potential customer.

    Cons

Once sale has been made then it completely gets turned over to the Route Drivers...no residual commissions. 99 percent of sales calls are cold calls...no relationship selling. Grunt work that burns out a lot of their sales people after only a few years or less...not a good long-term career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give your sales people more opportunities to establish relationships with customers and some residual commissions for doing so rather than give all of the servicing of accounts to the route drivers.

    A Nightmare!!!

I worked at DS Waters of America

    Pros

A couple guys that worked there were pretty cool.. Other than that there is nothing else

    Cons

Absoloutely most awful training ive ever seen... Management cant keep consistent communication ever! Thrown to the wolves within first week of working here with very minimal training.. Disciplined by management for not doing job correctly when never taught how to do the job!!! Waited over a week for a mailed live check to be sent to my house. Pay sucked..

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn how to train your employees the right way! Management needs to learn how to treat employees correctly.. Especially new ones..Anyone that doesnt have experience in a job like this will likely fail due to lack of training and support from management and their lack to even care if you're being trained the right way.. Only care if the job is done and their butts are covered

I have been working at DS Waters of America full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The only pro I can offer is that this company has the potential to be the strongest player in the Water, Coffee and Water Filtration business however, they are run so poorly in so many areas that the opportunity will be squandered and they will NEVER be considered a great company or a great place to work.

    Cons

The biggest CON is the company vision "Customers For Life" It should be "Customers will Run for their Life"
    They can't keep customers because....
    - Employees aren't valued and paid peanuts (especially frontline workers)
    - Support systems hardly exist. (do more with less)
    - Billing , customer service call center , and an outdated data base system contribute to the short falls.
    - Advancement opportunities are rare and unethical.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

THE PEOPLE IN THE TRENCHES NEED SUPPORT! Managers running routes 90% of the time is ridiculous. Hire some help instead of hiring another VP of something.
Get in touch with the daily operations at THE BRANCH level not from your air conditioned office.
The morale stinks and I have yet to speak to anyone who enjoys being part of this company.

    Pros

    Good benefits, product is good

    Cons

Does not value employees, Management worried about themselves rather than the workforce. Not open to hear ideas that can help the company grow. Bad Pay

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care about your employees.. people matter its not about how much money you can make..

Former Employee - Route Operations Manager

I worked at DS Waters of America full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Most employees are great people. The company is stable and should continue to maintain its market share.

    Cons

12+ hour days. Underappreciated. Always asked to do more. Advancement opportunities were rare. Technology was behind, decisions were slow to be approved.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of the people that earn your salary on their backs. They don't need to become rich, just respected. Senior management needs to come down from the ivory tower once in a while and talk to the frontline associates.
