    Pros

Work life balance is good. Pay is lower than other companies but the stability and benefits make it worth staying.

    Cons

There is a lot of red tape involved to get anything done. They are constantly changing internal processes. By the time the bugs are worked out of one process they are already moving on to a new one.

I worked at DST Systems full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

-You don't need a college degree or any experience to get a job here.
-A decent opportunity to get entrenched in Information Systems and Financial Services
-If you're lucky, you'll have a good boss and you'll get a chance to learn a lot. If you're unlucky, well...
-It beats a kick to the face with golf shoe.

    Cons

-HR is a nightmare, they will try to stifle your advancement and pay you as little as possible.
-Poor management at most levels and a "good old boys" mentality.
-Managers will stab you in the back, steal your ideas and expect you to be happy you just have a job.
-Very little innovation and a lack of resources in most departments means lots of overtime and a revolving door.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

-Empower managers to lead and reward those with high integrity. Encourage innovation and understand that senior management doesn't have all of the answers and should be open to suggestion instead of seeing ideas as a threat.
-Quit letting HR dictate the decisions of management, find HR PROFESSIONALS that are advocates for the managers instead of glorified pencil pushers trying to justify their existence.
-Hire top talent, pay them their worth and promote them to senior positions; quit rewarding substandard performers who are "yes men and women" based on their number of years at the company.
-Train your employees and be more supportive to those who aren't afraid to speak up, quit being hypocritical and actually establish a culture of people who care about the company and not just themselves.

I worked at DST Systems full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    Newly renovated and clean environment.

    Cons

I started out part-time and eventually went full-time. Don't be fooled by the newly renovated building with nice views of downtown Kansas City. Don't be fooled by the popcorn Fridays, the monthly donut socials, or the many food days. As we know, the Financial Industry is UP and DOWN all the time. Therefore, this company has many LAYOFFS or will find any reason to FIRE you. You will not use anything that you learned in training. Management is more concerned with planning the next food day or donut social and could care less about your success at DST Systems. Opportunities to advance are very slim because they are all about politics. Pay is low compared to other similar companies and overtime is never really available. If you have children or if you can't live off of $12 to $13 an hour without steady overtime, don't waste your time. Please don't tell the manager anything in private and expect it to be private. Management is known for putting you in another position without your permission. You either take it or leave the company. If you are put into another position without your permission, you are being setup for a layoff or termination. Oh, be prepared to pay $40 to 60 a month for parking in which 3 cars will share one parking spot. If your car gets scratched or damaged by the parking attendants who move your car throughout the day, DST does not pay.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop playing politics. Make sure managers are there to help team members succeed. Stop trying to convince employees that everything is ok with the company by buying food and having party all the times. Need more DIVERSITY. Train employee properly before you lose clients to other competitors. Since bonuses are not given and pay is low, DST should at least pay for parking.

    Pros

Great people with a plethora of knowledge

    Cons

Company is struggling to keep customers. Several layoff's have occured. I also have never met so many manipulative managers. It is not about what you know but how well you grovel your manager while boosting their ego.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

DST would be a much better place if instead of workers getting layed off it were management. Currently to many idians

    Pros

    Decent offices (many newly remodeled)
Some recent improvements to help morale like relaxing dress code.

    Cons

Extremely slow pace. If it should take hours it will take a week.
Overly complicated org structure means no team knows what the other is doing and simple tasks require multiple teams to implement. My small team requires 3 full time people to track tasks from infrastructure group alone.
Everything requires a meeting and a discussion.
It's scary how much this place feels like Initech.
People who are motivated by being productive and driven should avoid this place as it will just frustrate you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at facts and data ( or lack thereof) and don't trust sub ordinates to tell you if things are broke or not. To many teams give excuses for why they can't do things ( blame recent reductions in many cases) but never have a plan for how to fox things. Stop the excuses and challenge people to find ways to be more efficient.
Challenge the status quo which is very against company culture.

I have been working at DST Systems full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The people were great to work with and there is a lot of variety. The benefits-health, dental and vision insurance was good. You can gain a lot of experience in the financial industry and technically. There were a lot of very capable and intelligent people there that will share there knowledge. It would be a good place to start out, but really should not stay there.

    Cons

We were always short staffed, training was not very good and the pay was not comparable to other companies.
