Pros
It is a stable place to work. There are always work to do and opportunities for overtime. The new leadership of IT is doing great things.
Cons
It has an old culture. A lot of people are invested in the status quo and they will do anything to keep it. Many people in IT does not like to share information because they are scared that you will take their job. There are a lot of people related. They tolerant people that do not do anywork.
Advice to Senior Management
Find ways to get rid of people that are not doing their job because it brings down the morale in a department. Find a way to change the old culture where people get where they are because of who they know and not what they know.
Pros
You will learn a lot within HR
Cons
You will never be promoted
Advice to Senior Management
Take care of existing employees in HR, and promote from within. HR is horrible at promoting internally. All new leadership positions were hired externally, sending the message to internal employees that they were not worthy. Also shows that HR is not capable of developing a bench.
Pros
Good benefits and good salary
Cons
Old school culture with entitlement behavior
Pros
You'll learn the importance of working with others to get assignments done. The pay is worth the hassle of getting projects done.
Cons
You must be able to communicate with fellow employees to stay informed on what's going on. Not everyone is familiar with what they're assignments, but you'll find that anywhere. There also may be disputes in meetings but that's the corporate world.
Pros
to gain experience and skills
Cons
it starts very early u have to be up by 6
Advice to Senior Management
try to get good gpa and apply online
Pros
DTE has a 401K program and excellent opportunity for overtime.
Cons
Promotions are subjective. Candidate selection is primarily determined by management not skills. Managements forcus is more on friendship and behavior. If you are quiet and accept anything management does to you (no backbone, yesman, or doormat mentality) you have a better chance of promotion.
Advice to Senior Management
Senior management need to put a process in place to hold middle management accountable. Heads are in the sand.
Pros
good people and fun times
Cons
sucks on the phones and no advancement
Advice to Senior Management
dont kiss but
Pros
entreprenuerial environment, smart people, company looking to grow, great leadership, oportunity to run with it once you prove yourself, good compensation
Cons
unclear talent management, risk averse company
Advice to Senior Management
better talent management
Pros
Salary is pretty nice. Work pressure is not big. The work conditions are ok. The amount of work assigned is less and you dont
Cons
minimum oppurtunities for growth. The company is full of kool aid clubs. Unless one has a god father it is tough to grow in this company. INnfact there are no or few growth oppurtunities
Advice to Senior Management
Please support good performers and improve the bloody Aramark cafeteria. Does DTE Really need all those architects. All those technical architects dont do any thing of significance. The developers in different groups do the real work. Remove all those TA's and QA's.
Pros
A substantial number of dedicated people, great benefits, they will do many things to ensure that the potential for a layoff is kept low. Also some interesting things being done in the non-utility businesses.
Cons
Most of the previous reviews are consistent with pointing out that the lack of career opportunities is incredible. Even for many of the dedicated people, there are just tons of employees who don't care if they ever get promoted or learn another thing in their entire career. Therefore, the company spends almost no time on career advancement opportunities. It is as if the deal is, "we will give you great benefits, do everything we can so that you do not get laid off, but don't expect to ever get promoted or have someone even care".
Advice to Senior Management
Can we please bring the HR practices out of the 1950's? Or do you really want the bulk of the people to be unambitious and unmotivated?
