Understaffed

Patient Care Technician (Former Employee)
Orlando, FL

I worked at DaVita full-time for less than a year

ProsI loved helping our patients everyday and the other techs were genuinely kind to our patients

ConsThe schedule was inconsistent and it came out a couple days in advance. Asking employees to work 14 hour days with little notice is unreasonable and everyone is set up for failure. They were so concerned about coming under budget that patient care suffered. The techs and nurses were sweet to patients but hated their life.

Advice to Senior ManagementHire more people and make consistent schedules

Damaging to the soul!

Registered Dietitian (Former Employee)

I worked at DaVita full-time for more than a year

ProsConnecting with patients that value your knowledge and understand that you are there to provide the tools needed to achieve a positive outcome and not to ruin their lives by taking away the things that they love. It is possible to see a patient come from one of the lowest points in their health-related life to one of strength and control. I absolutely loved to hear that a patient could feel the benefits of mindful eating as related to renal diet recommendations.

ConsIneffective management; from every level and sphere of influence. The entire company lacks organization. Training is rushed and very poorly presented. Individual facility administrators are allowed to do things outside of the "DaVita-way" but fail to understand that they are greatly impacting the roles and responsibilities of other disciplines. Much of the new initiatives were said to have been presented to the FA's yet little support and resources were actually offered. Patients are allowed to behave in some of the most dysfunctional ways, often endangering other patients and staff, yet no actions are taken to correct their behavior. Constant pressure of improving clinic "numbers" and accusations that lab values were out of range because the patient wasn't provided enough education even though the patient admitted to ignoring recommendations. The slogan "It takes a team" is the same as saying, you are on your own in every way. Overall, I wish I could erase my experience there from my brain. Just thinking about it makes me sad!

Advice to Senior ManagementOpen your eyes!!!! There are some people that are working very hard to do what's right and there are some that work very hard to do the opposite. While there are some clinics that are run very well, there are some that are run very poorly and the impact of those have been ignored for too long!

Very unethical company, fraud is the name of the game

Facility Administrator (Former Employee)

I worked at DaVita full-time for more than a year

ProsWorking with ESRD patients. Continuing education was great

ConsDr admit patients that are not ESRD and nothing is done.
Compensation is not fair to new employees as money offered is based on the person your replacing not experience.
Dr and nurses are limited on what is available to treat their patients and Dr have no real say in protocols.

Advice to Senior ManagementPut people in positions that care about patients not just the dollar

The Mission and Values are active and alive.

Assistant Facility Administrator (Current Employee)
Portland, OR

I have been working at DaVita full-time for more than a year

ProsGreat top-down attitude, especially out of Denver; educational opportunities are the best I've ever experienced from a company; profit sharing is far above what other organizations would provide and foster.

ConsMid-level superiors, as directors and VPs, are not very clinic savvy; leadership teams at the regional level do not feel well supported when making group decisions.

Advice to Senior ManagementMBA is a great thing to have but clinical experience should be worth just as much in our industry.

A lot of work for little recognition.

Dietitian (Former Employee)
Baltimore, MD

I worked at DaVita full-time for more than 3 years

ProsAverage pay, a lot of autonomy.

ConsLittle focus on patients, while more focus on the bottom line. Company values regarding patient healthcare are not represented in their actions at all. -Very misleading for those whose focus is on patient care instead of corporate financial gain.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't forget what and why DaVita thrives in the first place...ESRD patient care.

How I wasted almost 9 years of my life.

Biomedical Equipment Service Technician (Former Employee)
Rockford, IL

I worked at DaVita full-time for more than 8 years

ProsGenerous vacation. Flexible work hours. I cant think of anything else. XXX XXXX XXXXX XXXX. I hated the place. Hard to come up with 20 words of pros

ConsWages not consummate to workload. Hard to use generous vacation because of too many people with too many problems, too often. Biomeds lynch-pinned into too many different responsibilities making It difficult to have a fulfilling life and get all you are expected to do , done. Corporate philosophy promotes symbolism over substance.( Good feelings are no substitute for money ). Women will accept considerations (GOOD FEELINGS & SOCIALIZING) other than money as compensation for their work efforts. Davita promotes this philosophy to keep wages down. This philosophy did not work for me. Good feelings don't mean a thing to a working man. I will never apply again to work for a fortune 500 company.

Advice to Senior ManagementGet your women under control. Too much emotion affecting critical thinking.( management)
