I have been working at DaVita

    Pros

I love working at DaVita because there is such great team work. Everyone understand the reason why they are there. DaVita core values is exactly how our teammates behave, Service Excellence, Integrity, Team, Continuous Improvement, Accountability, Fulfillment and Fun. I love being there for the patients.

    Cons

Every site is different. In my unit there's a lot of employee turnover.

I have been working at DaVita full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Personal and professional development is encouraged. Outstanding team atmosphere. Opportunity for advancement.

    Cons

The work is hard and can be depressing, high patient to staff ratio, frequent staff turnover, and lower than average wages for the industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The number one improvement I would like to see is improved patient to staff ratios. The center of nursing should be focused on direct patient care.....this is becoming increasingly difficult due to the constant added jobs and responsibilities of the dialysis nurse. This includes everything from countless hours spent on arranging transportation for patients to managing reports and rolling out numerous new initiatives with no room in the budget for increased staff.

I have been working at DaVita full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Central Location, a nice place to work while looking for other jobs

    Cons

Lip service paid to 'Core Values' but it's all complete nonsense. Employees are stretched thin in a high stress environment with no work/life balance. Employees are constantly asked to do more and more and questioned about why they should be allowed to stay and bask in Davita's glorious presence--but the company does nothing to keep top talent and expects employees to grovel for the privilege of working there.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management is completely out of touch with what's happening on the floor. The people hiring and training are allowed carte blanche and waste money and time constantly without producing results. Never any time to actually just sit down and work. There's a meeting every 5 minutes.

    Pros

What they say there mission is to both employees and patients

    Cons

Complete upper mismanagement, low pay, employee evils months late and no raises. Upper management in Houston should be replaced. If it were a public traded company, shareholders would fire them all.

    Pros

I can not think of a single pro to this company

    Cons

Budget cuts made at the patient care level to the point the patients are in danger.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make budget cuts in Corporate like your competition did, not at the heart of operations. People are not numbers. How do you sleep at night? Follow your Core Values. Too many non clinical people in upper management making clinical decisions that affect patients lives and safety.

I worked at DaVita full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great people doing great work and willing to work very hard

    Cons

While improving Service Excellence, with increase percentage of contract labor, increased verticalization and recent executive leadership decisions to centralize IT around Denver, CO and Brentwood, TN has the Core Values of Integrity, Accountability and Fulfillment drop in IT, forcing top performers to exit the Village (company), or be forced out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Allow teammates to bubble up solutions, rather than have an authoritarian approach to leadership. Provide true bottom up continuous improvement and do not allow interdepartmental power grabs to allow production to fail, so to score points. Promote Managers into Director executive leadership, as that rarely occurs.
