LPN hours are short and vary by clinic.

    Advice to Management

Walk the clinics sometimes. Get to know the teammates.

    Pros

It's a nice place to get into IT.
    The people
    Tuition reimbursement is ok.
They buy lunch from time to time.

    Cons

It feels like I am back in high school.
non-technical management making decisions for IT
    Dead end careers
    (cult)ure
Core values are just words; our record breaking fine last year proves that.
They use every excuse possible not to give people raises.
Our CEO is almost treated like a cult leader.

    Advice to Management

Stop using the bro system to promote people.
Pay people at least market average.
Offer REAL training opportunities to people. A 5 minute LANDesk tutorial is a waste of my time.

    Pros

DaVita is a great place to work because you are treated well regardless of your position in the company. Lots of options for moving up and around in the company.

    Cons

Low starting wage compared to the average even with 5 years of experience in the Dialysis industry. Long hours

    Advice to Management

The turnover rate of employees in the dialysis field is extremely high. The long hours and meager pay given is often a deterrent for people. If you want more retention, offer a higher start pay, or a guaranteed $xx.xx hourly salary after a probationary period.

    Pros

Great growth potential if you are willing to take on extra responsibilities. you get what you are willing to put into the company. Patients are wonderful!

    Cons

Sometimes new initiatives come one after another and it can be hectic to implement them all effectively and in a timely manner. Plan to stay busy.

    Advice to Management

Decrease the number of conference calls that are required when new initiatives are rolled out. Sometimes I spend all day on the phone and have no time to get actual work completed.

    Pros

Patients are great (usually), work is fast-paced, challenging and exciting

    Cons

Politics. Catty behavior. 16 hr shifts are EXPECTED AND NORMAL. Could care less about you as a person.

    Advice to Management

Get your crap together. No matching 401k? Treating techs like slaves? Stop treating KT like a celebrity - it's ridiculous.

  8. Disappointed with manangment structure.

    Pros

Having a social worker as Facililty administrator work well for the patients who wanted make complaints

    Cons

When it came down to the staff however,.it seemed as though there was a revolving door..The DaVita Village prides itself on teamwork. I don't see how that can happen when the FA is constantly having "coworkers" in the office asking what one an other are doing. Now come on, its petty, childish, and it doesn't inspire confidence in the workplace between the people you suppose to count on in a pinch. Especially when you have lives relying on you.

    Advice to Management

My advice is as follows. If you want a "Teamwork" atmosphere with the comradere that comes with it. Don't undermine it by having staff members sneak around, spying and tattlying like children. Trust me, everyone knows who it isanyway. That's why you're not retaining staff.

    Pros

Good philosophy from the CEO; unfortunately, the local/regional team does not deliver well

    Cons

This company plays unfair games to the supporting physicians of a dialysis unit. The local and regional team plays obvious and nauseating favoritism for the physicians working in the group owned by the company's Vice President of Medical Affairs.

    Advice to Management

MDA's have been awarded NOT to the physician who has been supporting a particular dialysis unit for years, but to the VPMA's group more than 300 miles away, without a practice around the area where, it seems, they are scamming MDA's around, in a city where they have no clinic, no hospital privileges, no patients. This seems to be a very obvious and nauseating conflict of interest within the company, having the VPMA own his own group, and facilitating the scamming of MDA's, provides NO benefits to the dialysis unit or its patients.

    Pros

    - The hours are flexible (can come and go as needed, so long as you're working your hours and getting everything done)
    - I have a lot a autonomy in the job that you don't necessarily get at an RD elsewhere
    - Coworkers are great for the most part
    - Good opportunities to build relationships with patients
    - Company RD meetings provide most of your required CEUs for maintaining your registration, and drug reps provide the rest
    - Recent changes to quality improvement metrics reflect a more appropriate focus on patient care rather than lab metrics

    Cons

    - Tend to overload their staff in general. For example, when I started with the company, full time for RDs was considered 100 patients, and now it's 120
    - The company rolls out a ton of "initiatives" aimed at improving patient care without taking into account the extra time required to actually carry out these initiatives in a clinic
    - Bonuses have historically been based on patient outcomes, many of which you may not be able to directly influence despite best efforts

    Advice to Management

I think a lot of people at DaVita feel overworked and underappreciated. The fact that you expect staff to be enacting initiatives in the facility while at the same time patient workload is increasing demonstrates a lack of awareness and respect for how hard everyone is already working trying to improve outcomes.

    Pros

    1. Opportunities for learning and growth
    2. Management invested in your career development (if you show interest and accomplishment)

    Cons

    1. A lot of Kool-Aid
    2. Harder to fix inefficiencies
    3. Lower pay
    4. High turnover

    Advice to Management

Make sure you hire the right people in the door who actually want the challenges of the job
