  1. I enjoyed my time working at the school. Got to meet important people within the school outside of the classroom.

I worked at Dakota County Technical College part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Was able to work around my class schedule and make a few dollars.

    Cons

There wasn't anything that was bad about doing what I was doing. It was very enjoyable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Maybe pay the students a little more per hour.

I have been working at Dakota County Technical College full-time

    Pros

Instructors care about programs and students
Faculty and staff work hard and are easy to work with - and put students first

    Cons

    Lack of administration (2013-2014)
Great uncertainty for the future of the college
Lack of engagement due to lack of communication and trust in the administration
    All doing more with less

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Build relationships and trust. Communicate.

    Doesn't Recommend

I have been working at Dakota County Technical College part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Friendly atmosphere, good pay for the work

    Cons

Entrenched faculty who feel wholly entitled to their position, no interest in progress, just status quo.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Shake things up! Take on the unions and brune the dead wood.

I worked at Dakota County Technical College

    Pros

Location isn't bad if you live south of the river.
Small environment allows staff to get to know each other well.
If you get along with the right people you may be promoted rapidly and given a "director" title.

    Cons

Top management has no leadership ability. Direction consists of saying "make it happen." The "director" title has been devalued. It used to be more meaningful, now there are "directors" for many little areas.
Direction changes weekly depending on latest management magazine articles.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Support the good, professional staff--in good times and bad.

I worked at Dakota County Technical College

    Pros

Students were the best thing about working here. Also there are many talented staff and faculty. Cutting edge programming. A little growth and innovation.

    Cons

Despite many talented staff and faculty, leadership rarely recgonizes them, except for the favorites who go out of their way to "make headlines." Remember there are many more in the trenches to do much more, but never get credit. Also the leadership commonly takes credit for the labors of those below them. Little sense of community--too many cliques.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Give more credit to those who are involved in daily, constant student contact. If it were not for them, there would be no college.
