Dana Corporation Anonymous:   (Current Employee)

Pros

The company is bring in new talent which it really needs.
Management is understanding and willing to listen.

Cons

Worse benefits package ever. Needs work in this area. Also poor work life balance compared to the rest of the industry.

Advice to Senior Management

As the company fights back hopefully they will improve benefits and keep good talent. Also the company needs to make investments in developing IT systems and improve communication between departments.

Pros

When cars are selling....you can really make some money. Overtime is opened up and you can work all of it that you can handle. You can really bring home some nice pay checks.

Cons

It's the auto industry you know? When consumers are not purchasing vechicles and production is backing up....you have to accept the the fact that you're gonna get laid off. Despite how good of a employee you are or what skills you have developed. When they start moving up the seniority list and they get to your number...your gone.

Advice to Senior Management

I understand that a company has to make the necessery cuts in this economy in order to survive but, the employee's work very hard to earn their benefits and incentives. The employee's put customer satisfaction and the excellence of their work before anything. I wish that management would find other ways to to cut back on costs instead of taking it from the hourly employee's.

Pros

Some of the people you meet are great. You can really form some great friendships. Can be like working with family.

Cons

This is the worst job when it comes to fairness. You can get fired for blinking your eyes while others and talk on cell phones and have nothing said to them. The upper managemen have no idea of how to run the line. Not to mention the 12 hrs shifts 7 days a week, hope you have no life when it come to that.

Advice to Senior Management

You must learn how to be fair if you want your business to succeed. You cant play favorites, because you will lose out on a lot of great workers that way.

Dana Corporation A. Nonomus in Maumee, OH:   (Past Employee - 2007)

Pros

It used to be a very people-centric company. One that you would be proud to work at. However, top management changed radically when people that had no stake in the long term future of the company were brought in from the outside.

Cons

Lack of communication. Arbitrary, micromanaging general management.

Advice to Senior Management

Make sure that the leadership grew up in Dana and are not just stopping through for a visit and a bonus.

Dana Corporation Engineering Technician. in Cambridge, ON (Canada):   (Current Employee)

Pros

Good people working very hard to try and grow their business.

Cons

The Corp has sucked the life out of our division and has not put any money back into it for sustainability or growth.
The Corp has no long term vision. Quarterly results for shareholders is the extent of their ability to manage.
Wages have essentially been frozen for the last 10 years. Unless you are one of the top dogs who get huge bonuses.

Advice to Senior Management

Get out and give the job to someone who cares about the companies future and its people.

Dana Corporation Commodity Manager:   (Past Employee - 2007)

Pros

Compensation is higher than the norm...t not to mention good benefits, but that's about it. Some of the plant managers are great to work for, and most of your managerial cohorts will be well-qualified people who know what they are doing.

Cons

Toxic political atmosphere at most locations and at Corporate office. Blatant favortism and not forthcoming with hourly employees regarding major changes that are coming up. Extremely high voluntary (and involuntary) turnover in the upper management ranks, especially at the director level or above. Promotions are very much given based on whom one knows instead of what one knows. Probably the scariest part of working here is the almost-daily news that yet another Dana plant is closing, downsizing, or moving to Mexico to "restructure the North American manufacturing footprint", as the "Restructuring Director" so tactfully put it.. Claim they promote diversity within their company, but if you are a minority or female, you can pretty much forget ending up on the Board.

Advice to Senior Management

Stop encouraging a toxic company culture....and wake up to what is going on in the automotive world!

Dana Corporation Support in Cape Girardeau, MO:   (Past Employee - 2006)

Pros

They are always striving to do what's best for the company. They do care about what happens to the people that are employed there and attempt to do the right thing for everyone. When the company announced plant closures it gave employees a great deal of time to find jobs and helped them to find jobs in the area.

Cons

With the economy and the failing auto industry there was only so much that could be done to save the plants that were closed. I do not think that the Chap 11 restructuring plan will save them.

Advice to Senior Management

Cut down to the bone. That's the only way Dana will survive.

Dana Corporation Anonymous in Tokyo (Japan):   (Past Employee - 2006)

Pros

Good, down to earth people, a real sense of ownership on projects and the real need of quality people on international programs gives a great opportunity to make an impact if you are ambitious.

Cons

It is the auto industry. Low tech products for the most part, a great percentage of quality problems arose from untrained or careless people on a local level. Low pay for most jobs ensure that unqualified people or unambitious people will keep turnover high. Quite frustrating on longer term projects. Very entrenched way to do things, with little opportunity to innovate.

Advice to Senior Management

Utilize better employee screening, ensure star performers aren't lured away by competitors/clients.

Dana Corporation Process Engineer:   (Current Employee)

Pros

Paychecks haven't bounced yet but I'm expecting them to any day now. The company has some good technology in the works but can't seem to follow through in getting them to market at a profit. Lots of good people with decades of experience in the industry to learn from if you're in the right area.

Cons

In the wrong market sectors and very bad leadership that is slow to change and mostly corrupt. Sales is a joke and nearly everything is sold at a loss. Most of the good people are gone due to attrition, plant closures, and disgust after the Chapter 11 emergence. The new people coming in either don;t know or don't care so we are probably headed back into bankruptcy.

Advice to Senior Management

Sell the company to your customers, they practically run it anyway and they would do a better job than you.

Dana Corporation Senior Buyer in Kalamazoo, MI:   (Current Employee)

Pros

Name recognition. People know the Dana brand in the industry and respect it. Global company which provides manyh opportunities and challenges. Pay is decent, benefits are average (everyone is in the same boat).

Cons

Global company so you are just a number. Don't feel the one on one with all of management. Quick to cut people when times are bad. Struggling after coming out of Chapter 11 bankruptcy because of the poor economic conditions.

Advice to Senior Management

The powers that run the company spend their life for the company, they work 24/7/365 and I'm very proud and impressed to see that. They are compesated for doing so, but for those of us in the trenches, we are working our butts off during out hours at work and don't like to be bothered over mundane details when it is our time off with family. Please respect the work to family ratio. FYI for the question below....Mr. Fesenmyer is not the leader of Dana Corporation...Its Gary Convis and John Devine
