I have been working at Dana Corporation full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

People are friendly, facility is very nice. Some areas of excellence exist -materials lab, gear engineering and electronics.

    Cons

Incompetence is tolerated at every level. Nearly all engineering management at VP Levels and above know nothing about engineering. Dana is last in technology and will continue until they get good engineering leadership. We changes bearings in an axle and call them a new technology, senior management eats it up. The same people have been in charge of new light vehicle axle products for 10 years without making one new product. How does that work?

    Advice to Management

Dana says they want to be a technology leader. We are way behind when compared to all competitors when it comes to technology. We budget a reasonable amount of money for next generation products, but is waisted on high school level efforts by those who continue to not perform. OEMs want to see a proven solution. Don't be afraid to clean house. Read the book Top Grading. Follow up on lost opportunities, Dana has screwed up two major opportunities because of poor Diff-case design (something Dana should be very competent at). There was no consequence. Don't tolerate incompatence.

I have been working at Dana Corporation full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

A lot of good people. Good holiday schedule and vacation policy.

    Cons

Office culture continues to get worse. Atmosphere controlled by politics, more who you know than what you know and differing opinions get shouted down.

    Advice to Management

Shot down Grace Lake and learn what is happening at COTC. Too many company secrets being given to customers and vendors.

I have been working at Dana Corporation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

A LOT of opportunities, but need stomach for risks and exposure

    Cons

Many survivors, stuck in the old way of doing things, not prone to innovation, despite the speech. Processes tangled in red tape, lacking the environment to attract new talent - a pity, since there is so much to do.

    Advice to Management

Embrace the synergies from deploying similar products to other markets / segments, this will help move away from the cost cutting brutal juggle

I have been working at Dana Corporation full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Good environment, opportunity to learn and develop.

    Cons

Too much focus on cost reductions instead of creating / developing the best product at once. Pressure in all levels to bring successive savings year after year and its effect on quality and performance. Always driving production and sourcing to third world countries. Technology is being just given away to Chinese partners, meaning the government there.

    Advice to Management

Dedicate more training, specially to new hired people. The systems in Dana are cumbersome and it is being assumed everyone getting there is familiar with different databases, MRPs, TEAMCENTER and much others. Time to get information involves searching in multiple systems and platforms. Everything is getting slower and bureaucratic to limit of frustration.

    Pros

Unionized, good benefits, depending on what department you are in has a family feel to it.

    Cons

They say they value the employees but they throw them under the bus a lot. Only able to get one promotion from warehouse associate to Lead.

    Advice to Management

Please step up and take responsibility for the employees you hire. Don't discriminate against everyone because one person makes mistakes or is a safety hazard.
