no path for growth or training or learning other than simply doing the job
lack of vision towards employees development

    Pros

    Annual family picnic
    Annual family dinner every January
Friday morning breakfast (if you can get it within 15 mins of it arriving)
    Mostly good work/life balance

    Cons

Very less pay compared to what others pay - they take about 50% of what they bill their clients!
Very limited in scope of what they want to do in future.
There is a segregation of people who are employed at Danlaw vs people who are employed by Micromax (the company that Danlaw acquired) and the top secret folks who work inside the labs.
They seem to be set in their ways and don't want to try anything new.

    Advice to Management

Be more transparent with your employees about where the company is heading.
Try to get inputs from employees about ideas that might help.

    Pros

DanLaw Inc. together with its parent organization DanLaw International (India), I saw as providing a very people-friendly atmosphere for in-house and off-site personnel, and was active in holding employee and family events.

    Cons

While seeking to focus the offerings of the organization to a main area of excellence, after absorbing other organizations, those areas found to be outside of the main focus, seemed not to receive much support.

    Advice to Management

Continue to fight for bringing more of the opportunities In-House, whereby the value can be seen for skill-sets that are beyond just the immediate task-level scope. More Project Supervisory/Management skills can then help expand the main area of excellence, so that DanLaw can offer the Turn-Key type solutions I had envisioned and spoke of in all hands meetings.

    Pros

Sr management is accessible. Pay/work balance is good with equitable pay. Work ethic is rewarded by compensation. International culture makes everyday more interesting.

    Cons

    If you're deadwood, you're pigeonholed.

    Advice to Management

Provide company status more often than biannually (4x/yr), maybe with short newsletter.

    Pros

Treated nicely. Good for totally unambitious people.

    Cons

Paid poorly. Totally enslaved to GM and FORD. May be it is called being customer centric. But it comes at the cost of the career progression of its employees.

    Advice to Management

Cut down your overheads and use software to manage pay and benefits - you need only two managers - have sales people who actually bring in business.
