Good for Industrial careers, bad for Corporate careers (Sales, Marketing, Finance, IT etc)

I worked at Dannon full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    - The company invests in manufacturing infrastructure

    - Free yogurt and water

    - Company has potential

    Cons

    - Be careful if you are thinking about applying. They are dishonest about job roles & responsibilities. Often, the job listing and what they describe on interviews is not what the job actually consists of. Additionally, they constantly change your role, against your will and without your input. Limited control over your career path. Sadly, turnover is high and good talent is leaving the company.

    - Compensation for US employees being cut, despite growth in the US. Some compensation cut announcements were unprofessionally done via email. US growth is subsidizing a flat Europe, yet Paris HQ bullies the US and it’s employees.

    - Corporate functions (Sales, Marketing, Finance, IT etc), processes, and systems are highly underdeveloped and falling behind modern business (feels like the company is operating in 2002). Lack of thought leadership means the company does not know what “good looks like” and has no plan to catch up.

    - Employee skillsets falling behind. Many are hostile towards developing skillsets, learning new systems, and do not understand their application and value.

    - The company approaches efforts 1 - Without thoroughly thinking through the initiative, 2 - In a half-hearted manner (underfunded, under-resourced, “holes” and “workarounds” everywhere), and 3 – with unrealistic timelines, which ends up being more costly. Poor communication of requirements & expectations. Upper managers & directors erroneously declare success, despite holes and broken components everywhere, later dumped on employees.

    - Nearly every corporate team is under-resourced and under-supported.

    - Senior management not open to ideas, stifling creativity and empowerment.

    - HR dept writing fallacious favorable company reviews

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize the company’s potential. By remaining undeveloped and under-resourced, you are throwing away tens-hundreds of millions of dollars from the bottom line in various inefficiencies and missed opportunities. General category growth can only continue for so long. Problem #1 is you do not listen. You have sent your HR folks on here to attack other employees, rather than address the problems at your company. In the future, open up to good ideas, and also stand up to Paris HQ bullying the US around.

I have been working at Dannon

    Pros

The overall benefits are pretty good. Very nice location. Very good growth brand and growing market. Overall nice facilities for the most part.

    Cons

To be fair I had been warned coming in here. Dannon used to be a very good company to work for. However, the US business has become a training ground for the ex-pats from France. Extremely difficult for a US citizen to grow within the company. It has become a company that is being run solely for the growth and development of the French corporate people.
Hours are ridiculous. It's expected that you work horrendous hours, if nothing else other than to show. The people here are for the most part miserable. Some departments are worse than others. The finance department is the worst. I've literally heard of people being yelled at for trying to leave 5 minutes before 6. And you are expected to be on the clock 24/7, working from home when you get home and be online working every weekend. That's what is expected of you. I even was told about an employee who was fired because he was in a bad car accident and had to go on disability and they fired him for it.
Turnover is horrible and would be worse if the market was better.
Not a place for anyone with a family or anyone looking for a long term future.

I have been working at Dannon

    Pros

Great place to gain experience. Rapidly changing environment leads to lots of exposure. Very friendly people, good hard workers. Good benefits/PTO, and competitive salary (particularly when benefits and the like are factored in).

    Cons

Can be a bit overwhelming with all the constant changes. Sort of a "throw you in the fire" type atmosphere, which isn't necessarily a bad thing if you are able to figure things out without much guidance. But to newer people, in can be quite challenging.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Internal promotion seems a bit hazy, for lack of better words. The whole policy of internal promotion just doesn't seem to be consistent. Some jobs are posted, others are open and then filled before anyone knows anything about their existence. Inconsistent is probably the best word to describe it.

I have been working at Dannon full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Very open atmosphere. Growing company that has great products and a great vision. So much potential. Great vacation package.

    Cons

Company ran too lean. Too many people doing too much work. So much to be done but there is not enough time or enough people to do the best work. Because of this, there are too many errors that are made.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to your people . Give positive feedback. Reward a job well done.

I have been working at Dannon full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great products in a growing category. Good pay and excellent PTO policy.

    Cons

Environment of bullying behavior by leadership. Over the past few years, promotions are based on who you know or what country you came from, rather than about performance and results. High employee turnover is encouraged and expected, to keep the workforce young.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Leadership needs basic employee management training. Allowing experienced and dedicated talent to leave the company now, will hurt your performance when the category tightens, or the competition gets more fierce. You are thinking too short term, build your talent and business for the future too.

I have been working at Dannon full-time

    Pros

Benefits, pay, flexibility with work schedule /Work from Home all excellent. Culture of the company is great, investment in the growth of their people is exceptional.

    Cons

"Office Politics" is a real issue.
-Departmental leadership is poor to non-existent.
    - Push to outsource and downsize the department is causing good talent to leave or become paranoid.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure your department heads are aligned with the vision of the Groupe and not making changes that are counter to the culture of the company.

I have been working at Dannon full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Motivated team who are focused on being a growth company. Dynamic environment intended to react to the market while also defining the future. Fast growing and market leadership. Those who believe in overcoming obstacles will thrive.

    Cons

Not the right environment for most people. Total expectation that individuals engage and drive their own success. Those who expect to be given a career roadmap, a stable set of responsibilities, and handholding for their job will be perpetually frustrated. Easy to be (or at least feel) overwhelmed by the challenges.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The culture is right for a growth focused organization. Focus on attracting and retaining people who thrive in that culture, not changing the culture to fit the people.

I worked at Dannon full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Company Pride and camaraderie are very high. There is a true sense of ownership in the air. Dannon sees the high potential of their industry and keeps the team chasing after this goal.

    Cons

Work-Life Balance is difficult to achieve in this fast paced environment. Top performers usually don't make it home by 6pm. Some managers are not able to execute the standards of Coaching and feedback during personnel reviews. HR tools are offered but with some managers it feels like they are just checking boxes on a list.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dannon is on the right track! The relentless efforts to deliver the vision have paid off and will continue to do so. Opportunities to improve relate to finding the right work-life balance across the teams to avoid burn out and ensuring managers are consistently focused on coaching, corrective action, and feedback for the all-star as well as the underperformer.
