    Pros

stable funding, interesting science, friendly atmosphere

    Cons

below standard salaries, no incentives beyond base pay, poor communication from senior management, privately held (no stock option incentives)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Company needs to implement appropriate reward programs to maintain key employees. Executive management needs to communicate much more clearly.

I have been working at Dart NeuroScience full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

There are some very good scientists and mid level management. Excellent funding for a company this size. Great culture established by the employees.

    Cons

Upper management is completely disjoint from the core of the company. Some very questionable scientific and business decisions are being made in a vacuum of the remainder of the company. Employees are all viewed as simply cogs in a machine.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Upper management needs a serious reality check. Company priorities need to be reviewed and majorly adjusted. Treat your employees better with more respect.

Some good people, terrible management, absent CEO, no incentive schemes, poor salary and career growth

    I worked at Dart NeuroScience

    Pros

Apparently a very solid long term investor who is willing to foot the bill for 10+ yrs (not a traditional VC financed biotech). Some really good people at PhD level in biology and chemistry departments. Nice new facilities. Good work-life balance as nobody feels like they will lose their job any time soon.

    Cons

An absent CEO who doesn't deliver on his promises to employees. Upper levels of management have too much control and no respect for some directors (who are pretty ineffective but remain in employed). A lot of unhappy employees creates a negative atmosphere and no incentives to work hard. A history of botched handling of annual bonuses and performance review leads to lack of faith in employees that efforts are rewarded so nobody tries too hard, "what's the point" attitude is pervasive.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some people just need to be fired. There needs to be an external advisory board, the CSO has too much control. More experience drug discovery/developers are needed in the company, people with a track record in industry not academics from the university environment. The LLC structure prevents the granting of options but the lack of long term options/incentives is not normal for the industry. The highest performing employees will leave when they can, and you won't attract the best talent to the company, you'll just get more mediocre average candidates who want to just cruise along knowing that the place is going to be around for 10 yrs drug or no drug approved.

    Pros

Some very good and seasoned researchers

    Cons

Head guy sets a very poor working environment, clueless about drug discovery; some other very senior people are also clueless and should not be managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ken Dart and Ken Johns need to make sure that upper management, specifically Tim Tully, understands that the overall goal of the company is about drug discovery, not all the other ideas he's working on and pushing for which are total distractions to the goal and a giant waste of resources. They also need to make him understand that company culture comes from the top and that he has set a poor example of that, and he needs to do more to make sure some of his managers treat people with respect instead of acting with impunity.

    Pros

Great working environment. Great Facility and people there are very friendly and nice.

    Cons

    less organized
No stock options and it is a company plan to be private the whole time

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be more goal orientated and effective in managing
