    Pros

Good Pay for Part Time. Nice people. They fill you with lots of free snacks.

    Cons

It gets kind of tiring and hard on back. You can't miss any of your shift to get the bonus pay which is what makes your pay so good.

    Advice to Management

    Keep encouraging the workers.

I worked at Data Recognition Corporation full-time

    Pros

*Very friendly and talkative team. *Management listens to what you may have concerns about or what could be improved. *Some variety in the daily tasks you will be doing for most of the year to break up the monotony. *Nice facilities that are very well kept. *Fitness facilities in the buildings. Although you won't have much time to use them generally.

    Cons

*Monotony of the work drags on sometimes. *Sometimes there aren't agreed upon ways of doing things that can negatively affect job performance and create confusion.

    Advice to Management

*Only thing I can think of is making a standard protocol to be followed at each location for each job so transitions are smoother and there is less confusion.

I have been working at Data Recognition Corporation (Less than a year)

    Pros

I am interested in all things education, so even a chance to understand the grading of standardized tests (which is what I did at DRC) was interesting. Interpreting rubrics always led to some interesting questions. Unfortunately, scorers don't have much say in what the rubrics are. But the people were very friendly including Scoring Directors and Team Leads. Pretty relaxed environment too. Pay is pretty good for what you do. Pretty flexible with schedules, but of course they'll want people who are available for entire projects over others who are not.

    Cons

You sit all day aside from 2 breaks and a 30 min lunch. Simple, but monotonous. Plus test-scoring is a seasonal position.

    Advice to Management

All Scoring Directors and Team Leads that I interacted with (even the new ones) were all friendly, but let you know what they and their managers wanted done.

    Pros

Very laid-back and low-stress. Lots of feedback on work performance on a daily basis. This includes both negative and positive. Overall, wonderful and interesting co-workers. Promotions are generally from within.

    Cons

The Reader/Test Scorer position is strictly a seasonal opportunity. Thus, no traditional benefits (i.e. no medical/dental, insurance, paid time off, etc.). Opportunities for advancement are somewhat random and are by management appointment.

    Advice to Management

    N/A

    Pros

The educational division of DRC scores standardized tests given to school children all across the U.S. It is a great job if you are looking for work, have a college degree and need some fill in money. Their work mainly starts in April and pretty much filters out by August. It is nice to know you are a part of the educational process. Many of these tests do ultimately determine graduation, how teaching is implemented, etc. in the various states. People are fantastic. Work environment is casual. Clothing is very casual. Company provides free drinks and the occasional treat. Supervisors are very friendly. Most, if not all, of them were scorers (readers). Team leaders supervise small groups of scorers (6-12). Pay is not high, but you get a bonus if you work 40 hours (35 hours is minimum).

    Cons

Sitting at a computer all day, clicking a mouse takes some getting used to. It actually is very physically, as well as mentally, grueling at times. But there is flexibility when you need to stretch or move your legs. Since it is temporary it offers no benefits (except the bonus), and the seasonal nature leaves one without a job come fall. Many retired or semi-retired people work year after year.

    Advice to Management

Train mid-management to communicate better with the readers (scorers). Often new people do not know what or why they are scoring. Jargon is not always explained. Part of this is due to the fact that there are many returning readers who know the scene. It can be kind of confusing the first few days.

    Pros

Environment is very relaxed and friendly. No dress code, and free coffee and hot chocolate. Team leaders were very easy to work with.

    Cons

Sitting at a computer grading the same question over and over, as one might imagine, can become mind-numbing at times, but the company of the other graders helps keep you sane.

    Advice to Management

I think that reader salaries should be increased significantly. In Pittsburgh DRC was able to purchase a brand-new building for use only 3-4 months out of the year. I think they can afford to pay their readers a little more.
