I have been working at DataCore full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Decent benefits such as health insurance and 401K matching
Standard business model that just works
    Pay is above average
Very predictable work day, consistent execution
    No work on weekends
Bottom line: Workplace well suited for individuals looking for a stressless job where they work on their assigned tasks.

    Cons

    Limited learning opportunity
Lack of role models or strategic leaders
Minimal leeway for creativity or risk taking
All decisions are driven top down, low empowerment
    Little opportunity for career advancement
Annual employee reviews are considered a necessary evil by management
Motivates employees with only one thing: money
Low recognition for above and beyond effort
Lack of innovation, purely inorganic growth
In decision making, employees are treated purely as resources, not people
No team building, team offsite, team events, nothing. Get work done and leave
Bottom line: Energetic individuals who seek job opportunity to be creative and grow are misplaced here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to your employees and realize how demotivated many folks are. Replace leadership sleepyheads with people who are capable of fostering collaboration and creativity.

I worked at DataCore full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Flexible hours, generous PTO policy, great benefits package, reasonable pay, plenty of personal leeway, laid-back work environment, free coffee, soda and snacks, good work-life-balance.

    Cons

In general this is an OK place to work if you are seeking a low stress job where you can come to work in trunks and flipflops, where you can show up at 11:00 AM and leave at 04:00 PM without being questioned. At times the environment as a result can seem unprofessional. The environment is very relaxed. However, things that seem too good to be true often are. You will find middle management values processes that are contrary to established business best practices. This can be frustrating.

The company is 16 years old but has adopted the archaic product development practices its founders grew up with. There is high resistance to change. Many of the senior employees have ten or more years with the company and don't seem to be interested in learning about new technology best practices used by other companies in the industry to improve internal functions and processes and grow revenue. I would say that that even suggestions to improve processes seem to be greeted with a level of animus. Old school management style and good old boys hierarchy. New hires are unable to surmount deep-rooted old school ethos.

Senior management has been floundering for years trying to find a direction. Too many big idea roles with few people who actually get things done. Too quick to jump on a 'trend' wagon without researching what's a good fit for business objectives. Engineering resources continue to getting burned up in sizeable skunkworks projects none of which did yield a single dollar ROI nor any true innovation in years. Some projects were inane to the extent that one could question the executive team's grasp on reality.

High management turnover in some units (sales, marketing, bizdev) while the engineering department is still run by the founder generation. Senior engineering leadership members are 'semi-retired'; they enjoy their sunset years in their retreats abroad while managing product development operations from afar with lowest possible effort. Management team couldn't care less about personal growth or career growth - status quo is their favorite, this is a retirement community.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to look into market disruption strategies to really dominate the software defined storage market. There might be a couple of quarters of decline or rockiness but will pay huge dividends in the long run. Many new, high-profile entrants pushing into the market; establish a multi-year product strategy to regain market dominance. Stick with it! Restructure engineering management; cut loose the few talented next-gen leadership personalities that are left from their lethargic puppet masters.

I worked at DataCore full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Laid back culture, open door policy with upper management which leads to a flat structure. Small company where ideas are accepted from all employees. Huge potential for growth. Great compensation, they reward those who care about the company and work hard.

    Cons

Occasional miscues in hiring exes and upper management and holding onto the wrong people for too long causes undo work and stress, but things always seemed to work themselves out (of the door).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be bold and clear with your vision. You have the talent in your company to be a giant in the industry, rely on those people and give them a big goal to hit.

I worked at DataCore full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Niche technology product. Some nice people and some smart people. Free refreshments. Some depts have a laid back approach. Loyal employees support the founders. Located in beautiful Ft Lauderdale, FL. Europe employees have different experience than US employees. Recently improved benefits.

    Cons

Challenging work culture, unnecessary stress, and high turn-over in some depts. Europe employees (and friends/family) have different experience than US/other employees. Difficult business reputation to overcome.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Re-evaluate your "in-charge" team. It's challenging to let go after 15 years but... its best for the technology.

    I worked at DataCore

    Pros

Company has been committed to a vision since founding and they are doing well.
I had to leave due to my husband's new job but best place I ever worked for...the company truly cares about people and the people department (they don't like the term Human Resources - not personal enough) goes out of their way to treat people fairly.

    Cons

Free candy and sodas - made me gain weight...
Sales team in Americas has had a lot of turnover but from my checkpoints it looks like they finally have the right team going now.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Love the quarterly updates and all the emails directly from the CEO with updates on what is happening; ideally rest of management team would share more info with their reports.

    Pros

Honest and Trustworthy and full of Integrity

    Cons

    Too Generous to a fault

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue being the company your sacrificed your family to build. Others that complain about it have not taken the initiative to build their idea of a company, they want to manage your value to meet their needs. Don't fall for it. If one does not like the standards set by those who gave up a year salary and sacrified family time to start this company, let them start their own company. They can walk a mile in their own shoes.

I have been working at DataCore full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Awesome product, some very nice people who work there, free food, break room stocked with snacks and coffee

    Cons

"The people department" appears to be very friendly at first but their minister of culture is awful! So much talent has been hired to work at this company and they all have left because management. I'm also sure anything nice written about this company is someone from the "people department." Alot of nepotism too. Regardless of how bad you are. you can keep your job if you're related to someone in the people department. Very low morale in this company because of that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have the COO clean out some of the founders who get in the way of all the great talent that has been hired. Redo the awful people department.

I have been working at DataCore full-time

    Pros

Great product, smart but friendly people, culture encourages family-like atmosphere, flat organization and does not micro-manage (encourages innovative self-starters), better-than-average compensation (salary, 401K, stock options).

    Cons

Small (I.e., more vulnerable to market disruptions than larger companies)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep focus on the core, but start looking to expand into new areas, both product-wise and market-wise.

I have been working at DataCore full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

    Flexible with working remote
401k Plan and good benefits (Healthcare, LA Fitness Gym Membership)
Free Snacks & Beverages (They also cater lunch every Wednesday)
    Friendly co-workers
    Up and Coming Company

    Cons

A bit disorganized (but getting better)
Air Conditioning with a mind of its own

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seems like the company is growing quickly and doing very well, and they have a great product. But with the fast growth they need to ensure better communication between departments.
