I have been working at DataScan Field Services full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Make your own hours. Work in the field and not in an office. Access to company car for work and personal life. Good benefits such as 401K with matching and profit sharing.

    Cons

Very few opportunities for advancement outside of relocating to the home office in Georgia. Marginal yearly raises. Pay is only "ok". Must work in adverse conditions (heat, snow, rain)

I have been working at DataScan Field Services as a contractor

    Pros

Very few. You can make a few dollars if you get enough inspections.

    Cons

No mileage paid unless the round trip is over 100 miles, which pulls the $32 inspection down to a few dollars an hour. In lots of places not enough work to get groupings to make it worth your time. If you request mileage for those over 100 miles you have to keep a close eye to make sure it's even submitted let alone approved. The complaints about their employee's talking down to people are spot on! Their communication skills are garbage just like their training.

I have been working at DataScan Field Services as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Compensation, Hours, Prompt weekly payments, Down-right easy job.

    Cons

    Work is extremely weather dependent.
    Work is extremely industry dependent.
Emails are sent out regarding major changes; People are expected to follow these changes at the drop of a hat without any sort of human interaction regarding training or discussion; Not even a web meeting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to what the people in the field have to say. Be available to the people in the field when they need you; You're on salary, that means you work 24/7, even Sunday.

I worked at DataScan Field Services as a contractor (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The opportunity to make money if you are willing to work. flexible schedule. good part-time job.

    Cons

No consistency working as a contractor. Not a career. New employees poorly trained. New employees inexperience make it difficult for others with experience to look professional. As a contractor you are not part of the company (and are reminded this). Jim Moran was the heart of this company and a great man, his passing left this company without a captain. This ship is sinking and no one cares.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to contractors in the field. Hire employees with a mechanical background. The people you hire represent the company BE SELECTIVE. You can't teach common sense.

I have been working at DataScan Field Services

    Pros

Work out of your own home, no office to go to!

    Cons

As a contactor, your treated like you are not worth anything. Paid by the inspection at too low of a rate. They have you work a 50 mile radius from your home but will schedule inspections all over the area, not uncommon to put 150+ miles a day on your own vehicle with no vehicle use reimbursement. If you have an inspection over 50 miles from your house, they will reimburse from mile one at $0.35 per mile round trip. This is treated as income, so after you pay taxes, fuel and some wear and tear on your vehicle, you get nothing for your time. Do the math, not worth it.

They charge you for the use of equipment, which is quirky at best. When IS upgrades the software, hours are spent trying to get it to work right.

There is never a positive word, all their memos end with the following to contractors are: if ........will be ground for dismissal.

From a contractors point of view, the Moran family culture is not evident here.

Unless you are hard up employment wise, look somewhere else.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Development a contractors council to exchange ideas and improve communications. DSFS needs to be more positive in its written communication to contractors and not communicate with negative undertones.

Did not see any pros working for this co,

    Cons

They pay you 30 an inspection but you have to use your car and spent 20 on gas.
    Generous people!

I have been working at DataScan Field Services as a contractor (less than an year)

    Pros

none, ever watch the movie office space, if not, rent it

    Cons

management could care less about their contractors, low pay, no VEHICLE REIMBURSEMENT, equipment does not work and they charge you to use the equipment, constantly being spoken to in a childish tone. Cant find management unless they have an issue with job performance, they do not know their own policies for mechanical inspections. THey need more managers desperately, there are 4 for 800 inspectors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fix your own internal issues first before taking on new clients and promising unrealistic expectations, Less meetings more focused on your contractors. Actually catch your other departments in first rate lies. Less golf

A company under the umbrella of a wonderful conglomerate, JM Family, that takes a slightly different direction.

I have been working at DataScan Field Services full-time

    Pros

Cost of Benefits, Excellent 401k/Profit Sharing, Company Car, Generous Year End Bonus/Gifts

    Cons

Frivolous Travel, Potential to be away from family for days, Little input allowed to management, VERY little input accepted, NO input that would facilitate positive change accepted.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen! The 'pros' in this review are a result of JM Family initiatives, NOT Datascan. If you want to cut costs, you must attempt to cut travel. Field associates have great ideas b/c we live out there every day. Communicate better. Field associates that hit certain monthly revenue numbers should be rewarded with a bonus. Cash Bonus = Motivation = Higher Revenues = Higher Profits.
