I worked at Datalink full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Some really sharp minds work here and some great people. Get to work with some interesting technologies, plus some great projects.

    Cons

Going through some pains currently and their a little loss of what they want to be when they grow up. There is very little room for growth with in the company.

    Advice to Management

Decide what you want to be when you grow up and enable your employees to grow with the company

    Pros

Given many options. Somehow they were always the wrong option in the long run and the leadership team did not have your back.

    Cons

When discussing through options with leadership and receiving thorough feedback it was like talking to a brick wall. Promised many things but never received any of them in the long run.

I have been working at Datalink full-time

    Pros

Datalink is a large company and is slow to change. Good work/life balance but that's because most people do not work hard.

    Cons

Leadership manages by spreadsheets and does not have a pulse on the field. Complete lack of accountability; solutions architects are in most cases lack luster and have no accountability. Leadership is not aggressive and does not support the field - in fact Datalink is at best a sales prevention organization.

    Advice to Management

Put your egos aside and get a pulse on the field. Your gross margins are under significant pressure and unless you get aggressive, treat people well, and embrace the field who are your representation to customers you will continue to be "status quo" as competitors pass us by.

    I worked at Datalink full-time

    Pros

None after you actually start to work

    Cons

Commission only and when you get paid is ridiculous. The company takes zero risk for their sales people and only pay after they get paid. The engineering support is minimal and the regional management is probably the worst I have ever seen. This company has an aggressive growth plan in place but there is zero chance it succeeds because top talent will stay away.

    Advice to Management

You can't expect sales people to turn over account contacts and then not pay them on specific products sold.

I have been working at Datalink full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Willingness to change and accept new ideas at highest levels of leadership. Amazing co-workers. Hard working. Talented people. Move from VAR to Services is an amazing new journey and will continue to put more emphasis on employees being primary value. My contributions are valued.

    Cons

Work hard and long hours. Travel is a challenge for some. Resistance of account executives to accept vision to develop services as future driver of the business.

    Advice to Management

Continue to ensure compensation is competitive and variable pay plans are attainable.

    Pros

After a few months of employment, it became clear there really aren't any pros with this company in its current state.

    Cons

Datalink pays no salary to it's sales people. Sales people are paid via commissions only. Then, they don't pay commissions until 30 days after the company gets paid. It can take 6 months to a year for an employee to get paid, and that's if you're lucky. Datalink forces all sales people to sign an employment contract that allows the company to refuse to pay commissions if they so choose. They regularly refuse to pay employees commissions earned and then use these millions of dollars of profit to improve their bottom line prior to reporting their numbers.

    Advice to Management

No hope for this company with the current management team in place. The worse in the industry and deserving of a class action lawsuit.
