    Pros

things are fast and loose datto is willing to let people without experience in an area work in that area so you can do things other companies would not let you.Free lunch friday and snacks usually. There was security training for a day that was good but that was it for learning. Growing fast

    Cons

If you are competent you will overloaded with work until you are miserable. if you aren't you will be disrespected but not let go. no christmas bonus last year don't know about others. Fast growth but leadership team is not good enough to handle it. Constant development changes but little progress

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

you need to grow development with the rest of the company. *if you can't grow dev then stop growing everything else or things will collapse*. and stop making the best way to progress being to inflate the CEOs ego

    Pros

close to home. Some very clever developers. Pay is ok but not for the amount of yelling that goes on.

    Cons

If you are in the CEO's inner circle of high school friends you will succeed without regard to technical merit. If not, you will not, again without regard to technical merit. Disagree with the CEO and his angry, red-faced know-it-all attitude at your peril. Have never seen the man praise, only lambaste. There is no value in quality, only speed of delivery of new, incomplete, buggy product features. QA is an afterthought. Tech support out numbers DEV and QA two to one.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please stop micromanaging everything. Perhaps its time to get a CTO to advise? Hire and trust competent managers. See a doctor about latent anger issues.

    Great People, Chaotic Management

    Pros

Lots of perks, basic medical no cost to the employee. Young company with mostly local college grads, with young management above them. Booming company with an excellent idea. Lots of good employees. Chance to work with many different systems, great place to get experience in Ubuntu systems (if in Cloud Ops), or in Ubuntu and Windows systems (if in Tech Support).

    Cons

For the amount of pressure employees are put under, the pay compensation could be better. Management tends to listen to the CEO versus understanding what their employees are telling them, some don't understand what their department actually does. Departments that directly correspond to the bottom line get lots of attention, those who don't have their workloads expanded, without increasing personnel. Management has problems motivating people, and those who are friends with the CEO outside of the workplace, or can market themselves well, tend to climb the ladder, versus those who maintain a pure best for the company attitude will get passed by or ostracized. The company focuses on hiring people rather than automating systems, because they feel that people can be retooled on the fly where automation cannot. Management likes to push unrealistic timelines, without taking into consideration employee scoping of projects. Execution of product development could be better, which can be seen in the resulting products.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Management needs to listen to their workers, they have lots of great ideas and have a better idea of what the partners need, and how to make things more efficient. Also the company needs to spend some time polishing their systems, and getting certain processes automated, it will help their bottom line in the long run.

Fun atmosphere, but disorganized management leads to stressful work days.

    Pros

The employees are fun to be around, the atmosphere is youthful and has a lot of energy. Lots of new tech coming in every day to keep the workspace up to date, and technologically advancing. Laid back environment - but only when management is in a good mood.

    Cons

A lot of people there didn't seem qualified for their level of leadership, which led to disorganized goals, slow responses, and priorities changing almost weekly in order to keep up the appearance that things are improving.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you continue to promote everyone up the chain just because they did okay at a low level position, you're going to suddenly have a lot of management that is beyond their scope of accomplishment and were better suited at their previous role. Sometimes this works out, but there are a lot of people who are only successful in leading because their departments/teams are properly staffed, not because they actually have anything to contribute.

A little too chaotic for my tastes

    Pros

A few very friendly people, nice area, Some great benefits and growing. "start-up" feel, free coffee/drinks. Free catered lunch on Fridays. Focused goals (Datto revolves around the development/sale of in-house products so the company is very focused on that).

    Cons

housing in the area is insane. no free snacks (nitpicking). The "start-up" feel is a double edged sword; work days are very unstructured and chaotic, often forcing developers to be on 24/7 call. Some of the upper management come off a little... strong in their personalities. Drab offices, in dis-repair in some areas and just barren in others. Takes on a lot of fresh out of college interns so code base is mediocre on the best days, horrifying on the worst.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus more on making your employees happy and less fear-mongering.

I have been with Datto over two years now and the growth I've seen with the company as well as personal and professional growth has been tremendous. There are always opportunities to learn more and get promoted if you're willing to put the work in and spend the time to get there. I could definitely see myself working my entire career here.

Former Employee - Sales in Norwalk, CT

    Pros

Young company, some cool perks like food and soda / drinks available, decent vacation time, some fun young people in the company. Pay was good but not for the amount of BS that you have deal with.

    Cons

Management is incapable of running things smoothly. Communication is very poor throughout the company. Tech Support and Sales are constantly battling over things that could be easily resolved if they could communicate. There is a certain favoritism that goes on that is not merit based in all departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate, don't be arrogant and listen to employees from all levels of the company. Be professional in how you handle disputes with your customer. Often times you refuse to look at it from the perspective of the customer. You do not clearly communicate what is involved / needed from them when they purchase their devices.
