    ProsGood people, but the atmosphere certainly changed following the onset of the financial crisis. Very talented individuals.

    ConsNot the same following the recent level of partner departures, it will be interesting to see how the firm bounces back

    Generally positive albeit in a negative environment

    ProsGreat for graduate development and life/work balance is predominately excellent in that you rarely work late.

    ConsPoor atmosphere, low salaries, no bonuses, lots of admin, few openings for career progression

    Advice to Senior ManagementIncrease salaries to recruit more talented staff

    The sad demise of the once leading light in Cost Management

    ProsAccess to major projects on a global basis, although theses are declining.

    Very few other pros these days, unless your aspirations lie in becoming an Engineer for AECOM.

    ConsDavis Langdon has been taken over by a corporate giant who didn't know what they were buying, and now that they have it, don't know what to do with it. As consultants we thrive on meeting clients and providing them with expert advice to help deliver their aspirations; AECOM appear to be dropping DL's consultancy services in favour of increasingly becoming an inward looking resource servicing its own projects.

    Very little opportunity for promotion as AECOM is imposing its own structure on DL, which is similar to trying to put a square peg in a round hole. Not everyone is an Engineer or Architect.

    Senior DL management who understand the business, its people, its principles and who have key industry contacts are leaving in droves, or are being moved sideways into non-policy making positions, only to be replaced by AECOM management who do not understand the business services.

    You can't sneeze without having a piece of paper giving you permission.

    An ever increasing proportion of working life is spent managing internal project finances and less time spent at the coalface generating income. So what does the finance department do these days?

    Quarterly financial reporting to Wall Street is often preceded by further job losses.

    The DL Seah International part of the global business refused to sell to AECOM, there were good reasons for this, which are now apparent.

    Advice to Senior ManagementConsultants offer their skills, knowledge and expertise in return for fees, it therefore follows that if your consultants leave, then so does your ability to generate income. Worse still, your clients may leave with them, and indeed have.

    Try to have an appreciation that consultancies thrive mainly on contacts and relationships, not big corporate names and images. You are only as good as the people who choose to work for you.

    Why buy a leading brand and then propose to ditch the name?

    Don't buy inferior brands and then try and attach the DL name to them to add value. You will get found out as the proof of the pudding is in the eating, as they say.

    American corporate policy isn't the only way.

    The Davis Langdon ship was cast adrift by weak, reckless and greedy senior management which led to its sale, don't run it onto the rocks now.

    But most of all, change before it is too late.

    Where did it all go wrong? AECOM

    ProsDavis Langdon was the best in the business. The firm and its staff worked with the best design teams, with leading and progressive clients delivering high-profile projects. No matter what sector you were involved with, you were able to stretch and grow your professional expertise. The business had a strong DNA and family ethos leading to a "career for life" culture. Paul Morrell was the Senior Partner and became the UK Chief Construction Adviser, shaping the Public Sector strategy for Construction. That is the heritage that Davis Langdon was built on.

    ConsGreedy partners who enjoyed the good times but forgot about the downside. The crash in 2008/9 caught the Partners with their pants down. Saddled with debt, they sold to AECOM and that is where it all went wrong. Cut after cut - both through redundancy and salary cuts has left the business confused, with no direction or purpose and effectively dead. If you're joining this business, you're joining AECOM, not Davis Langdon. A large Wall Street Corporate which is more interested in a commodity service, getting bums on seats and delivering "value" to its shareholders - Bank of America. No interest in staff and there is always a cull in October, just as the Annual Results are due. Not a nice place to work

    Advice to Senior ManagementGo on a Management Course and learn that in Professional Services, your people are your asset that you trade on. WIthout them (and good quality) you have nothing.

    Difficult times

    ProsMostly good people with a desire to do a good job. At a local level management is willing to listen and try to improve the working environment/situation for individuals.

    ConsWhilst understandable the desire to cut costs had an impact on the firms ability to deliver to the client. Basic systems and processes have ended up being seriously creaky.

    Advice to Senior ManagementWhy not sell up to a big American corporate.....? Oh, you did!

    Terrible times...

    ConsThe way the senior management handled the global crisis decreased the overall motivation of the company. This left no choice for over-achievers but to leave Davis Langdon.

    The company does not communicate well between its regional offices, and sometimes international offices compete with each other for work on third countries.

    Advice to Senior ManagementSenior management should recognize that some of the service lines are still profitable even in these difficult times, and the people in these service lines do not have to accept the same fiscal measures applied to the less profitable service lines.

    Good times good, bad time AWFUL!

    ProsIt used to be the place all people in the QS world wanted to work for, excellent graduate prospects and career enhancement. Good pay & conditions too

    ConsShocking handling of the recession & the way it would affect staff! 4 rounds of redundancies, paycuts for all, and outsourcing is now on the way! Mainly due to incompetence at higher levels!

    Far too many managers looking out for themselves with no idea of the dept.'s they are in charge off leaving the staff bemused at best!

    Advice to Senior ManagementTry listeneing to your staff and learning what they do!
