    Going Downhill Quickly

    Legal Assistant (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsStill a lot of great people to work with, top notch facilities and technology.

ConsAbsolutely no respect for those who don't hold law degrees. Under people are treated on par with just another office item like a stapler or laser printer. It's a completely different place from what it was in the 90's. Work product is suffering from management's desire to save pennies on the backs of the lower paid people and throw dollars out the window on attorneys who have no loyalty to the firm.

Advice to Senior ManagementPay more attention to the people who really get the grudge work done and out on time with no glorification and treat them with the respect they deserve.

    Hard work, but good people

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsAwesome people and culture; very enjoyable experience overall. Interacted with colleagues in and out of work in the litigation department and couldn't be happier working with that group. I would recommend it highly for an internship, and while the life of associates looked difficult, the culture sounded much less stuffy and awful based on friends who spoke about working with other law firms.

ConsInternship was a lot of document moving, but definitely what you made of it. You could ask questions and learn a lot about what the legal industry is like and what it's like to work in it.

Good place to work as far as big NYC law firms go

    Associate (Former Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsFor the most part everyone is treated respectfully and professionally. Great support services (tech support, legal assistants, secretaries, etc.).

ConsCertain mid level associates have a bad reputation for treating junior associates in a demeaning way. These are typically mid levels that transfer to DPW from another firm and so are used to a screamer culture. Partners and management need to step up and actively send a message that this type of attitude is not the DPW way

Great place to work--nice people who work hard

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsThe people are great. Everyone is exceptionally smart and dedicated to their work. Some might see big law firms as being terrifying places where everyone is out to make a buck and move up the ladder and, although that may be some peoples intention, everyone is a team-player and wonderful to work with.

ConsI find that the firm's ability to train its' staff and incoming interns, associates, employees, etc on the technical programs and procedures of the company--which can be stifling.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

    Legal Assistant - Career Position

    Legal Assistant (Current Employee)
    New York, NY

ProsDPW is a great place to start if you are trying to break into legal services. The responsibilities are wide and varied and you will learn from some of the most knowledgeable people in the industry. They offer continuous training to help keep skills sharp and really believe in work/life balance although this varies widely among departments. The firm has phenomenal benefits especially regarding PTO. Definitely negotiate your salary upfront because once you are hired the pay increases are dismal. It is also very difficult to get fired if you are support staff so don't worry about making mistakes.

ConsNO bonus! Small pay increases. It is extremely difficult to get promoted. A lot of senior managers have been with the firm since the dawn of time and you have to wait for them to retire before getting promoted.

Advice to Senior ManagementDPW needs to be more of a meritocracy if it wants to keep and retain top talent. It is self-defeating to go above and beyond or try to be innovative if you know you will be stuck in the same position indefinitely.
