I have been working at Daytona State College part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good supervisors and friendly family atmosphere. All are directed and focused on student achievement and success. The pay is good as well.

    Cons

I don't have any negative comments about my employer. I just wish i could return to full time status, but the enrollment numbers have been down since 2010 and five teachers (including me) in our dept had our hours reduced because of the enrollment decline.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More online course offerings to attract students back.

I worked at Daytona State College part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Don't. Run. Far far away.

    Cons

Administration and Dean is motivated solely by money and not the well being of students or the teachers. Teachers are treated HORRIBLY, there is no job security, no benefits, nothing. The irony is the entire establishment would not exist without the teachers. Yet, the teachers are walked all over, hours cut left and write, accused of things they did not do, the list goes on. It's amateur night in Dixie Land working for the higher level administration.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire the management and give more leadership to the teachers.

I worked at Daytona State College part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

It was a good job for convenience while attending classes at the Dayton

    Cons

Management employees have been their for years and therefore can seem to be unable to use far work ethics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I was apprehended by my manager about a conversation between another employee in which their was not a problem, however my manager had lunch with this girl every day and the girl lied and told my manager a complete lie about our conversation on how to set-up the chemistry lab. I feel that it would have been better for my manager to have had a meeting with the both of us together;, this way the other girl would have had to be honest about the conversation we had about how the manager expected us to set up the chemistry lab.

I worked at Daytona State College full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

In the department I worked in, there was a family like atmosphere- and everyone in that department was very invested in what they did. Working with professors was a very positive experience, and even as a student this was more exceptional than where I completed my Bachelors.

    Cons

Lots of hiring freezes. Many other departments had issues, along with unhealthy internal competition between departments. The college is not on one page, poor management could be an issue with many departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do not micromanage. Find common goals in other departments, and find a way to work with them toward those goals.

I worked at Daytona State College

    Pros

Great team to work with, high levels of communication, out of the box thinking to solve very intricate issues. The potential to work with motivated and caring individuals is second to none.

    Cons

Outside of the team the organization is best by a deep addiction to politics and vertical siloing of information to the point that solution may be approved and then not implemented for years.
