    Pros

Surprisingly good research culture in places for an ex-poly, good (physical) work environment, good business and professional connections

    Cons

Beware the performance management culture that sits just across the road from bullying - I didn't experience this myself but others have, there are some weak and over-promoted people in significant positions. Poor promotion prospects except for people in faddish and 'of the moment' initiatives. Oh, and this may sound like a little thing but the parking's rubbish. If you are teaching an evening class 'til late you'll still need to be parked up by 745. That makes for a long, long day.

    Advice to Management

Keep in touch with the people at the grassroots of the organisation

    Pros

    City centre location. Motivated students.

    Cons

Systematic downgrading of departments such as cyber security weaken their market position. Lack of willingness to use academics to develop departments to their full potential.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees for a change. Try not to keep everyone guessing on sessional contracts.

    Pros

A great place to work with great pople and excellent pay. The hours are also very flexible and suitable for students who need extra income

    Cons

There were not really any negatives for working at DMU since the work can be easily tailored to suit the employee. If you live nearby it is easy to reach but if you live further out it can be slightly harder to get to

    Advice to Management

    Nothing really to add

    Pros

Excellent facilities, both professional, social, and personal: Including a gym, cycle maintenance, computer maintenance and healthcare facility, multiple cafes and eateries, and the usual professional facilities you would expect from a university. A positive outlook to staff training and development. Continual development and improvement of campus buildings.

    Cons

A lacklustre IT department who can be difficult to get a positive response from. A sometimes difficult to fathom administrative system (with regards to HR and middle management).

    Advice to Management

Consider a review of technical support staff in specific locations, and of central IT management, as this department often feels unresponsive. Consider finding ways to reduce class sizes for practical lab sessions in the faculty of technology, as equipment (and sometimes staff) can be overstretched by lab groups of 15 or more.

    Pros

Can contact my manager easily to ask for time off, which is normally approved given at least 3 days of notice. Was given training for all aspects of the job, and trust me there was lots of training.

    Cons

Felt that the managers directly senior to me were being constricted by their managers... some ideas I thought were awesome was not approved
