I have been working at De Vere Group full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

You get to live in another country, albeit this can be short lived once you see the true measure of these people

    Cons

Get treated like a dirt on arrival. Left to your own devices with little or no help. The deVere culture is Smash & Grab (sell the highest commission paying product, not what might be in the interest of punter). Working very long hours for little or no money. Devere don't pay salaries sometimes they give advance only if you have written business.

This company is rotten from the top down, until this is addressed- forget it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start looking at yourselves in the mirror and count your fingers. You would never be orpine to say you've worked for deVere once you left.

I worked at De Vere Group as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Used a variety of systems which was useful for future employment.

    Cons

The staff were always working well beyond their hours which were never appreciated by management.
Work load was unreasonable, they had no intention of employing more staff and expanding.
Wage was poor for the work.
    Poor support from management.
    High staff turnover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate your staff more. Employ more staff, don't rely on staff to do long hours because there is more work than people to cope with it.

I have been working at De Vere Group full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The team I work with directly are fantastic. I've swapped departments once and moved back again and both teams are full of great people.

    Cons

poor pay - particularly compared to othercompanies in the same industry. limited pathways for progression & promotion

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

staff pay hasn't been reviewed in YEARS (I have been with the company 6 years & have only had one rise in that time, when the NMW would have otherwise overtaken my pay rate for being a fully qualified specialist)

more effort needed with regards to promotion/development structures. for an openly ambitious employee to have been with the company six years, constantly told they have all the ability to be promoted, yet still be "bottom rung of the ladder" and paid the same as the new employees with fewer skills is downright insulting and de-motivating.

I worked at De Vere Group full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

A stunning historical location to work at.

    Cons

Very rarely paid correctly, no training given, Managers with very bad values and attitudes towards staff, Limited benefits or rewards. To be totally honest the management I was under didn't even know how to do their Jobs, how can a restaurant manager not know his own menu?? He had no idea about wine or even how to set a table correctly. When you work in a venue with such a WOW factor you would expect the level of training to be excellent but I was very very wrong.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get your Job right before you start telling people you are in charge. You earn respect by working hard not by telling people you are in charge, set a standard and people will follow.

    Pros

Great venue to work at most of the time, great views, great clients, and some good benefits.

    Cons

Can not progress at this center, been here 10 years only made supervisor.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Needs a bit of a shake up, senior management are good, seems to be a problem with middle management

    Pros

Great social community within the work force, great social events and great room for promotion and support from managers.

    Cons

Company discount card isn't actively promoted by management and departments sometimes compete with each other in a nasty manner when there is no need for it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Company benefit card should be distributed to ALL staff and maybe get departments to mix with each other.

I have been working at De Vere Group as a contractor (more than a year)

    Pros

The few members of staff who are passionate about their job.

    Cons

Lot of lazy staff who don't care about the job they are doing, empty words promised to you just giving you misleading hope, never giving the opportunity to progress and no money invested in to the business to help the business out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to pick the right people to progress and lead by example by doing the work that everyone else does.

I have been working at De Vere Group part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    1. Good staff discount (40%)
    2. My colleagues were nice

    Cons

I worked at Mottram Hall for through University and whilst it was fine for a summer job I found a lot of management practices absolutely shocking.

    1. Despite being on zero hours contracts it was impossible to get a day off
    2. Not allowed to take breaks; the company would deduct half an hours pay from your wages but not allow you to take a break during your shift. This meant that essentially you were working for free for half an hour. This was raised multiple times with the management
    3. I would be paid wrong at least once every couple of months, it would then take a few weeks to sort out
    4. Top management would come to the hotel once every few weeks and expect to be waited on hand and foot whatever the cost to the experience of the paying guests. Examples of this include deciding to have a party for themselves in the closed halfway house (paid for by the company). This meant that staff from the restaurant had to go over to staff the bar, leaving the restaurant severely understaffed. They would also eat in large parties (without booking) at peak times, slowing down service for all guests.
    5. I saw life being made very difficult for various asian and eastern european members of staff after a change in management (presumably hoping that they would leave)
    6. Internal promotion and training was very rare. They would generally prefer to hire in from outside the business instead of training up current employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on guest needs and staff welfare

I worked at De Vere Group full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

great mixture of nationalities, hard working and fun people, some very talented high potentials with exeptional customer service skills, work flexibility for people willing to work irregural hours

    Cons

poor management, disrespectful employment terms and conditions, minimalizing employee rights, zero hours contracts and ridiculous rates of pay
witnessed discriminatory behaviour towards staff members
