    Pros

    Pay is good. Great location

    Cons

    Very old school corporate culture

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Only employees with lots of time accrued have time off. This attributes to burn out for newer employees. Review and redo your time off policy. Make it more equitable.

    Medical Surgical Floor

I have been working at DeKalb Medical

    Pros

This floor provides a foundation for nurses to learn and grow into becoming better nurses later. There is a wide variety of learning experiences from managing chest tube, to gastric bypass patients to other serious medical conditions such as deep vein thrombosis.

    Cons

It is also a tough learning environment where a nurse has to manage approximately 6 patients. It can be very intimidating for new nurses.

I worked at DeKalb Medical full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Upper management is very accessible, down to earth. Small company feel. Many people have worked there for a long time.

    Cons

Many corporate processes are being revamped to fall in line with new federal healthcare requirements. Makes things difficult to get things done when not everyone is on the same page.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to advice from mid-level and lower level managers who are in the trenches everyday.

6 months was more than enough

    I worked at DeKalb Medical

    Pros

The unit manager, charge nurses, and coworkers were some of the best I've ever had in my career. Truly a great team and I love them like family.

    Cons

Required to float to units you are not oriented to during low census times and possibly are not even qualified for leading to high stress and high risk. The hospital was always understaffed leading to high acuity and high patient ratios. Pay was the lowest I've made as an RN.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pay your employees for their accrued vacation time when they leave your company. It may not be required by law but you look cheap and it's in poor taste.

  8.

I worked at DeKalb Medical full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I love working in a hospital setting, I am in school for healthcare administration management, and I would love to advance in this kind of setting as well, and I will do very well at it cause I love working with people, helping people.

    Cons

knowing some people just may not get better, it brakes my heart at some point, but it is part of the job working in this type of environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

having grate ethical skills, understanding the code of ethics, carry your self professionally in every thing you do in a workplace, engage in employees activity, lead by example and behave as a model for all employees, provide education and tools that promote employees understanding, and compliance , encourage employees to raise their question and concerns and prohibits.

I worked at DeKalb Medical full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Compensation is based on experience, however the wages were good. I never got a raise while working for this company because of the recession and the job cuts but from what I was told the raises were given yearly and were reasonable.

    Cons

I can not think of any it is such a great place to work room for advancement, and you feel part a family. Large hospital yet you get to know everyone rather quickly.
