    Pros

Products were fantastic; upper management: fantastic.

    Cons

Note that if I were writing as an employee 15 years ago, I would've given only one star. Yet, thru networking & research I understand management and training has improved considerably since I worked as an independent contractor 15 years ago. During that time, training was two weeks' long & did not involve learning the products we were promoting to customers. It was fluff & wasted time. This led to subsequent, horrific problems in the operating room. Since, I understand JNJ has revamped the training program, offering skilled, prepared professionals to surgeons & now and now DePuy is considered one of the most prestigious spine product companies in the world!

    Advice to Management

As I understand, management and training has improved considerably since I worked as an independent contractor for the company 15 years ago. During that time, training was two weeks' long & did not involve learning the products we were to promote to customers. This led to horrific problems in the operating room, including one time I needef to leave the operatory to call my distributor for a major problem. His response? "Sometimes, you just gotta drop back & punt." Nah-no...maybe a surgeon must rarely need to do that due to unforeseen circumstances, but a sales nurse? No. Way! I quit, immediately.
Since, I understand JNJ has revamped the training program, offering skilled, prepared professionals to surgeons & now DePuy has become one of the most prestigious spine product companies in the world! Kudos!!

    Pros

Good people, good benefits, good pay.

    Cons

Difficult to progress. High requirement to be "visible" so people may focus more on being visible to management than doing their jobs.

    Pros

Learned a lot and got to work with some experienced and interesting people.

    Cons

Big company, jobs are very specific and as such it gets boring doing the same thing, even in under a year.

    Pros

The company has a solid reputation that is consistent with most large corporate names.

    Cons

Very poor management. Promotions and positive relationships are developed based on favoritism and seniority; and not meritocracy. If you like working with incompetent people that don't even hold college degrees, this is the place for you.

    Advice to Management

There needs to be more formal reviews and evaluations for management. Don't let the org chart fool you, you might be surprised who the brains actually are behind your business.

    Pros

The company really takes the credo to heart. First come the patients, then the employees, then the community, and last but not least, the share holders. You can live and breathe this here, and it is a great place to work.

    Cons

Large company that sometimes moves a little bit slowly. Also, it is in the middle of nowhere, which is a turn off.

    Advice to Management

While it is important to keep costs low by having a manufacturing facility in the middle of nowhere, it would be good to keep a satellite office in downtown Boston to attract more talent.

    Stability of J&J

Revolving door of management looking for their next job in J&J
Total focus on financial management, even if it starves the business of cash to grow and lead
Limited career opportunities for those not willing to move to NJ or other J&J operating companies

    Pros

Great company culture. Flat structure so achievements are visible. Great products that are seen as class leading by the market.

    Cons

Red tape can slow things down a little. Market is volatile so business planning take a lot of time.
