I worked at DeVry Education Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The benefits are decent and the culture is positive and respectful. This is a good place to be an employee.

    Cons

The "cash cow" of past practices is drying up. If the old ways of doing business aren't reinvented with a new value proposition, the slash & burn reductions in staff of the past couple years will likely continue.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reinvent DVU! Find a curricular focus and stay that course.

I have been working at DeVry Education Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

I really like the people I work with in my role in a call center environment. Room for growth in the many Chicagoland locations.

    Cons

System of employee development plan completion/evaluation exists but it not given adequate focus. The employee needs to take control of this process if he/she wants career growth within the company.

I have been working at DeVry Education Group full-time for more than a year

    Pros

They pay a decent wage compared to other similar jobs.
Overtime is nearly always available to those who are interested.

    Cons

Office culture is very poor. Nearly all employees are openly dissatisfied with their job. The students (customers) are very demanding and unreasonable. Very poor dissemination of the constantly changing information essential to job duties.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Consider the stress levels and dissatisfaction of the employees and stop making empty meaningless gestures to placate employees.

I worked at DeVry Education Group full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

People are smart. Compensation is average. Benefits are decent. You do feel like you are helping students get an education who otherwise would not have access to an advanced degree

    Cons

Budgets are tight and funds are totally dependent on enrollments so the ability to do things can go up and down. Some decisions are penny-wise pound-foolish. Many people just like to do things the way it's always been done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue with flex hours. Listen to the recommendations that come from the troops. When enrollments are down, don't take a cut evenly across all depts. Some are small and necessary.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

We all know politics play a major roll in many organizations but when the politics are visible and all your employees see it and you continue to do it. It becomes a problem. Live your for your culture if you want to attract students hire people out of college, hire young adults who can relate to the students. Your greatest asset is your employees. It would help if you could keep them. So many good people have left because you fail to realize that. As a recent high level director said when he left here, in my 25 years I've never seen the politics so bad as I have in this organization specifically in IT. Your education programs don't even meet with the times. Change your culture, get rid of your US Cellular favoritism(specifically in IT) when hiring employees and learn how to keep the current ones.

    Pros

Lots of room for growth! Get your degree while working. My hours were flexible. Great open door policy and for the most part, good team environment.

    Cons

Poor recognition for employees - employees that should get the proper recognition don't receive any and employees who do receive recognition shouldn't have!

    Pros

Great benefits, meaning the tuition reimbursement. Print the Teach Values make great table mats.

    Cons

Management does not take a serous interest in the development of their direct report. Succession planning what is that?

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Do more than just read the TEACH Values try living them.
