I have been working at Dean Evans & Associates full-time

    Pros

DEA was purchased by a private equity firm last year and recognizes the incredible value of the space in which we play. It is an untapped market. DEA is in the lead and will be putting its competitors in the rear view mirror with continued investment from the PE firm. This will be a VERY exciting place to work going forward. Great exec team looking to change the culture here to a performance based culture. Great people with a high teamwork IQ. Very cool office space in a great location.

    Cons

If there is a con it would be that change is not for everyone. DEA is in the midst of dramatic change for the better. For those that enjoyed the sleepy company of yesterday it may not be the best place to work. For those that are excited about the change there is not a better place to work.

    Advice to Management

Change can be done the right way and the wrong way. Do everything possible to make it the right way. The employees make the magic happen so please keep them in mind in all that you do and say.

I have been working at Dean Evans & Associates full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

As many have shared, this is a time of transition. This can be seen as a source of frustration or of great opportunity. With new leadership bringing vast experience and over 25 new roles currently available, I see it as the latter. - trusted to work when and where works best for you. - great managers. - great opportunity to learn from peers and leaders. - investment in things that matter - the product and the people.

    Cons

Change management could be improved. New policies have been rolled out less than perfectly.

    Pros

Employees (Non-Management) are terrific people. They will treat you like family! Some positions within the company (Not Sales) can be worthwhile. Previous CEO/Owner of the company, Dean Evans, was an amazing person to work for, one of the best I've encountered. It was sad to see him step down from this role.

    Cons

If you are fooled by mixed reviews about this company, it's because the only good reviews in the past year have come from brand new employees, or non-sales position employees. The brand new employees (hire within the past 6 months) are still feeding on the nonsense being dished about by management. They are ignorant of what the "new changes" have done to a great company. I'm a person who believe in a company that's constantly changing. I was initially excited when an investment firm came in to make new changes and innovate how processes were done. However, that turned out to be a whole lot of BS. The CEO hired to make those changes is incapable of doing his job. He still doesn't understand the software or the customers at all! He treats everyone in the company with disrespect and that attitude trickles down the management chain. If you ever want to know what it's like to work with this CEO, try having an argument with a 7 year old. The new changes made were not innovative or helpful to the company. The entire sales teams was constantly being moved to new territories with unobtainable sales goals that can be could not be achieved without a pipeline. Mid-level management started getting let go without any real reason. Job security threatened other managers which lead to aggressive tactics for pushing their sales teams. These tactics created a stressful environment in which everyone on the sales floor is now entirely stressed all of the time. They are constantly bombarded with last second meetings where they are grilled about every deal in their pipeline. If a deal doesn't come through, you are treated like a child from mid-level management, and even worse.. the CEO. On top of all of this, without warning, sales bonus structures were completely depleted in order to save the company money. This is mainly the result of terrible sales numbers which have drastically worsened since the new management policies were put into place. Ask anybody that works at this company how long they've been there. The turnaround has become almost ridiculous. All of the most seasoned employees have left for other careers or have even just quit without any new job yet in place. Maybe that was the goal all along though. Constantly hire new employees, push results through fear-driven tactics, reduce pay/bonuses, maximize revenue while reducing internal costs. Does this sound familiar to you?

    Advice to Management

Your sales team knows more about the software and customers who buy it than you do. The experienced members, if any are still around, have more knowledge on how to sell software than anyone in mid-level or upper-level management. Stop treating the like children and giving out terrible advice that doesn't apply to the real world. Also, your employees are real people with real families. Stop cutting back on their paychecks by dramatically cutting out bonus structures.

I worked at Dean Evans & Associates full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

The people in mid-management and below are wonderful. Interesting work because the company is growing. It provides for good learning opportunities with new business processes. Dean Evans had the culture right before JMI and Bob Irwin stepped in.

    Cons

It's not a good place to work. There is a reason so many people have left after 10+ years with the company without a job in place. Negative, disrespectful and aggressive environment. When a CEO has a temper tantrum in the majority of meetings with vendors, that's a problem.

    Advice to Management

Respect your employees. Stop swearing and saying very inappropriate comments in front of staff and others. Be more professional and mature and it will be much easier for people to respect you. Dean Evans is a wonderful man and it's sad to see his company falling in the wrong hands.

    Pros

I'm not sure what everyone is so upset about. It's surprising how quickly people forget Dean Evans' role in all of this. His greed made him completely unwilling to reinvest a dime back into his own company. His poor leadership got us into this state and it's going to take some time to untangle the mess. The DEA ship was headed for an inevitable date with an iceberg on Dean Evans' watch. Thank God Bob Irwin stepped-in to take the helm.

    Cons

I can't think of any cons. It's a great company.

    Advice to Management

    Keep up the great work!

Great people and the best product on the market. Truly collaborative environment. Free beverages. Nice office.

    Cons

Investors have purchased the company and an adjustment period is underway. I still believe it will be a great place to work, as the product is awesome, the customer base is loyal and the people in the trenches are fantastic.

    Advice to Management

Don't forget what got you here.

    Pros

Most coworkers are great. Free coffee is a plus. The software and customers are interesting. Good views of the mountains.

    Cons

The open floor plan is not for everyone. Management has always been paranoid and vindictive. The pay is ludicrous. Lack of training and advancement opportunities.

    Advice to Management

Learn how to recruit and retain top talent. Treat your employees with respect, including a fair wage.

Low moral, no direction from Senior Management, not a good place to work

    Pros

    Central DTC location, free soda

    Cons

Management has no idea what they are doing. Priorities change daily which makes it incredibly difficult to do your job. The sales team was given significantly higher quotas however their commissions were cut. The low moral has affected the entire staff in every department, however senior management doesn't seem to care as long as revenue is good. 8 hours is the minimum management wants you to work, so there is no work-life balance. The CEO is outrageous, he yells at employees in the office and throws fits when things aren't done his way. I truly don't know of one person in the company who isn't miserable and looking for another job. Save yourself the trouble and pass on this company, it's going downhill fast.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of the CEO, Bob Irwin. Stop changing company priorities daily.
