    I worked at Debtwire full-time

    Pros

I received numerous job offers and my colleagues who work at Debtwire in NYC and London all have been approached by other organizations in recent months and weeks. Debtwire started by poaching IFR staff and other groups are following the same strategy.

    Cons

Lack of journalism. Debtwire uses a small circle of sources, mostly people on the deal. It is an internal memo service.

    Advice to Management

Debtwire owners BC Partners need to takeover.

I have been working at Debtwire full-time

    Pros

Intelligent, friendly people. 20 vacation days. Medical, dental, vision.

    Cons

    No clear career path progression.

    Advice to Management

Promote good people, based on merit.

I have been working at Debtwire full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent place to work for journalists who want to break news and become an expert in their beat! Plenty of opportunity for growth, and pay is competitive. Fun, casual atmosphere with a teamwork oriented approach.

    Cons

If you’re not cut out for a fast-paced environment, then this isn’t for you.

    Advice to Management

With so much focus on growth, don't lose sight of the core business.

I worked at Debtwire full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

They do have some pretty decent free coffee. And there are some nice people there.

    Cons

They will take someone one with no finance background, promise them training and the moon and stars, only to spend maybe 30 minutes total on the training, then ignore you for a week before they throw you out the door. Also, the pay is terrible. Less than newspapers. Also there were rumors of sexual harassment.

    Advice to Management

Follow through, and really, be less mean.

  8. Fine Place to Start. Then Leave Early

I have been working at Debtwire full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Will train you even if you know absolutely nothing about business or finance for journalism roles. Similar limited requirements for their smaller analysis business. Staff never checks email after they leave work, a plus in either finance or journalism. While more strict than less-profitable sister publications, Debtwire is still quite lax. The European business is run well and with more appreciation for staff.

    Cons

Not professional whatsoever from hiring to office standards while you're there to when you exit. Office culture is pretty non-existent, although they can be known to throw a good party (and see lawsuit in 2015 by two female employees alleging harassment). No advancement opportunities; you can stay three years and be promoted one small rung up or about six or eight and get a bump to a lower-level position in the hierarchy.

    Advice to Management

Stop relying so much on bonus as part of compensation package; the variance is too wide and doesn't allow for good financial planning. The uncertainty of it stresses employees out to an unhealthy degree and breeds internal employee bickering and animosity. Promote a culture where people want to stay after you train them by giving them a bona fide opportunity to advance and own their space.

    Pros

hard workers, very smart people, open to ideas, growth oriented, very good teachers

    Cons

hours are long, too many coffee drinkers in the place. Should provide a healthier work environment in terms of exercise and nutrition.

    Advice to Management

Make sure your employees are living a more balanced life or they will burn out too soon. You pay well and offer growth and educational opportunities, but everyone needs to learn how to relax.
