I have been working at Del Sol Medical Center full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Awesome team! both the day and night shift really "have your back". Almost everyone was willing to help another nurse out.

    Cons

Some NPs micromanage you. Pay is also low, but benefits are a better than other hospitals. Not that many issues to deal with.

    Pros

Some really great coworkers and one really wonderful charge nurse, about the only hospital that would hire a new nurse

    Cons

Too many patients per nurse, some nurses received preferential treatment, one charge nurse who was completely unhelpful, many of the cnas on my floor were lazy

    Pros

General orientation program has lots of useful information to offer, the challenge is putting into action after general orientation.

    Cons

Micromanagement, expectations are too high for the staff to patient ratio,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

, Ask how staff is doing, be available for new employees

I worked at Del Sol Medical Center full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Enjoyed my tenure there, good working conditions in some areas but not in others. Co-workers are great and don't mind helping each other.

    Cons

Too many initiatives simultaneously, staff would sometimes get tired and did not take them seriously. They felt new initiatives were "one more thing to do". Very long hours in some areas, some departments are a revolving door.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

More visibility from upper management. Need to provide more opportunities for promotion and professional growth.

I have been working at Del Sol Medical Center

    Pros

There are wonderful co-workers, it really is the people who keep me here. There is some flexibility in scheduling. However, self-scheduling is limited to certain departments.

    Cons

Pay is not competitive, workload is often brutal with short staffing, senior management seems to believe that putting out memos every few months qualifies as communication and encouragement. Management is currently involved in a punitive campaign against employees over customer satisfaction scores (which are now tied into medicare reimbursement).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please formulate a business plan that includes adequate staff training BEFORE the plan is rolled out. Now that medicare is using customer service scores to guide reimbursement, HCA as a whole has adopted an unrealistic, constantly changing game plan that has left employees without effective leadership.
