    Pros

Experience was great and got to see a lot of injuries and meet different cultural backgrounds. Pot lucks and some staff were good people for the most part.

    Cons

Management as always lacked leadership. You are basically a number even though you were 1 of maybe 20. You would only get called out for the bad stuff , but never for glthe good stuff. Favoritism is the main reason why I left aside from huskge gossip almost management from team leads to directors.

    Advice to Management

    Pros

My experience level increased very rapidly. Plenty to do and coworkers made for a great team. My training came from extreme hands on and other coworkers.

    Cons

Always short staffed. Management turns a "blind eye" to suggestions/problems. Very poor leadership from all levels of management from supervisory to executives. Very self serving attitudes. Always asking for more from over worked staff. Managers listen to lazy employees the whiners/complainers.

    Advice to Management

Learn the value of retaining experienced and caring employees. Attrition is costly. Adopt a retention program. Provide adequate training, help your staff. If you can't be a good manager, then try being a good leader and help your staff.

I worked at Del Sol Medical Center (More than a year)

    Pros

Dedicated support staff with a can do attitude. Courteous and professional bearing among employees "in the trenches". Utilizes meager resources wisely.

    Cons

Senior management unwilling to accept responsibility for poor decision making. Blaming their poor judgment on junior staff. Holier than thou attitude simply not tolerable. Terrible Human Resources Department.

    Advice to Management

Proactive professional development of administrative directors. Allow your senior leadership to make those command decisions.

I worked at Del Sol Medical Center full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Some really great coworkers and one really wonderful charge nurse, about the only hospital that would hire a new nurse

    Cons

Too many patients per nurse, some nurses received preferential treatment, one charge nurse who was completely unhelpful, many of the cnas on my floor were lazy

I have been working at Del Sol Medical Center full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

General orientation program has lots of useful information to offer, the challenge is putting into action after general orientation.

    Cons

Micromanagement, expectations are too high for the staff to patient ratio,

    Advice to Management

, Ask how staff is doing, be available for new employees

I have been working at Del Sol Medical Center full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

Awesome team! both the day and night shift really "have your back". Almost everyone was willing to help another nurse out.

    Cons

Some NPs micromanage you. Pay is also low, but benefits are a better than other hospitals. Not that many issues to deal with.

I worked at Del Sol Medical Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Enjoyed my tenure there, good working conditions in some areas but not in others. Co-workers are great and don't mind helping each other.

    Cons

Too many initiatives simultaneously, staff would sometimes get tired and did not take them seriously. They felt new initiatives were "one more thing to do". Very long hours in some areas, some departments are a revolving door.

    Advice to Management

More visibility from upper management. Need to provide more opportunities for promotion and professional growth.

  9. Dissatified with work ethics in department.

I have been working at Del Sol Medical Center full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Great place to work. Acquired more skills than when I started. At least it added to my work experience.

    Cons

Need directors that know how to manage their personnel. You have staff and is full time status yet they call in sick so often it seems they are PRN status.

    Advice to Management

Directors ask for suggestion as to how to make the department better. Yet all our suggestions are never considered. Alot of favoritism workers get away with murder and slackers seem to have the better benefits.

  10. Senior Management is aloof.

    Pros

There are wonderful co-workers, it really is the people who keep me here. There is some flexibility in scheduling. However, self-scheduling is limited to certain departments.

    Cons

Pay is not competitive, workload is often brutal with short staffing, senior management seems to believe that putting out memos every few months qualifies as communication and encouragement. Management is currently involved in a punitive campaign against employees over customer satisfaction scores (which are now tied into medicare reimbursement).

    Advice to Management

Please formulate a business plan that includes adequate staff training BEFORE the plan is rolled out. Now that medicare is using customer service scores to guide reimbursement, HCA as a whole has adopted an unrealistic, constantly changing game plan that has left employees without effective leadership.
