Advice to Senior Management
pay attention to your lower tiered staff. most often they will tell you what is really going on

Advice to Senior Management

Pros
Lot of things to learn
All types of business units in a single company
Internal opportunities inspired you
People oriented company
Information is shared by leadership team directly to all employees
Cons
Management is not skillful
Most of the policies are not implemented in Chennai & people are not motivated to utilize the existing ones
Lot of dirty politics
Work culture is very bad
Type of people you mostly interact is below Dell's standards
Advice to Senior Management
Try to bring in the best talents rather than cheap resources
Most of the old managers should be removed & replaced with new ones
Pros
Overall, Dell is a great company to work for. One of the greatest perks I enjoy is the flexibility to work from home.
Cons
I wouldn't say it's a downside as much as is is frustrating when you have employees who don't take ownership of their own issues.
Pros
flexibility
day hrs of operations
Cons
growth
visibility in the management
Advice to Senior Management
lower level of hierarchy in the divisions. control on head count under a director
Pros
high pay, knowledgeable employees, most employees used to have a "team" effort approach, decent benefits (although the cost to employees has gone up 50%+ in the past 2 years)
Cons
management that's out of touch w/ the employees, morale is extremely low due to constant layoffs (several upper level "professional" jobs are being offshored due to being lower cost regions), employees are the last to get the new technology unless you're a sales person who will be seen by the customer
Pros
Solid company with financial resources to enter into new markets as it is trying to re-position itself beyond hardware. It has acquired several companies and now needs to integrate them together to have a solid product portfolio. The work environment at Dell is supportive of a work life balance and is involved with community activities.
Cons
Working in software development is a challenge at Dell as it is a hardware company and is not software oriented. for software development, it is a slow moving company. Another challenge is that if that Dell is Austin centric and if you do not work in Austin it is more difficult.
Advice to Senior Management
The strategy you have embarked on is great, but you need to execute. I feel there is too much lip service occurring and not enough results. You really need to look at a better strategy on how to be successful with software development.
