Pros
Salary is very good compare to other IT companies its at the top people on my team are great to work with, we bounce ideas off each other when you mention it to your manager an idea you may have that's when the problems start, they put objects in your way and will try to steal your idea if they can.
Cons
Managers are driven by stats every day you have a 5 min meeting with your manager at your desk and he/she will go through your previous day stats. I have been working in Dell now three years the other day I arrive two minutes late for work and I had the riot act read to me, have never been late since starting in Dell. Customers complain that Dell products are not as good as HP/IBM and sometime they are right there are server products out there that should never have seen the light of day.
Advice to Senior Management
Get your act together focus more on customers and the quality of the product.
Pros
Competitive Salary, Good Perks and compensation package. Challenging work and a chance for personal reward and growth with the right attitude. The possibility to work with some exciting products and technologies. For the really skilled and good networker oportunities for career progression. The international atmosphere at the workplace. Highly compettive atmosphere.
Cons
Job security is maybe not the best. One day you wake up and find out that your job has been outsourced to another party without you being able to do anything about the situation. Dell is a big company and not much influence on any decisions at all. Highly compettive atmosphere.
Advice to Senior Management
Think Outside the box
Pros
It's almost impossible to advertise Dell after the Limerick manufacturing closure announcement. It is understandable that the morale is down after such announcement. On the other hand, the situation is similar all over the country/ Europe/ world. Anyway the nice side are quite good work and life balance possibilities. There are periods when people have to work overtime, but not always. As well, people are pleasant.
Cons
From the Irish perspective, the biggest downside is the obvious tendency to move more and more jobs on the east. The question is how many people will remain working for Dell in Ireland.
Advice to Senior Management
Are you sure that hiring the cheapest workforce (wherever they will reside at the end) will be the best approach for Dell?
Pros
Work life Balance is one of the best reasons to work for Dell. Comp and Ben is also very good in comparison to other similar companies in the sector.
There are great efforts made to communicate better with the staff, blog, ideastorm that have great potential but still requires a lot of work.
Cons
Internal IT infrastructure is a disaster in Dell. You hardly get any tools to do your work correctly.
Leadership has improved over the past month but with the current OPEX restrictions, the feeling of the place is rather gloom. Travel is difficult / Team entertainment nearly non existent and this makes morale very negative.
Advice to Senior Management
Communicate better and empower your staff. Dell is coming out with new products and good ideas, but the internal communication still somehow doesn't work. IdeaStorm and Blogs are good but Senior Leadership needs to walk the floor (and not just in Austin) and make staff proud to work for Dell.
Pros
Challenges, dynamic environment, leadership model
Cons
Chaotic IT infrastructure, top-down decisions, short-term view disguised as "result-orientation"
Advice to Senior Management
Dell business teams approach most initiatives with a short-term view; strategic initiatives, especially in IT, are very hard to roll-out
Pros
Pay and benefits you can change shift at short notice.
Cons
Some managers think their so important they wont even say hello. Very little praise when you are doing your job weel but as soon as you make the smallest mistake they are down on like a ton of bricks. Four weeks ago they told told 200 people they were losing there jobs some had only been there for a shortime and had moved from good jobs in other companies, you also have people who have there 10 or mor years who will be out of work by the end of June.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to the people on the floor.
