Pros
Lot of training and tech resources, payment of exams, good work-life balance. All the benefits of Dell employee instead of a contractor like within others Co. (holidays, health care)
Cons
The most important thing is your performance, attitude and networking for progression, nothing else
Advice to Senior Management
To consider the human side of the employee, not being eslaves of the numbers seen on the stats.
Pros
Dell had an excellent, experienced and committed workforce that grew with company and delivered against all the odds. A great place to stretch into any extra responsibility a person wanted to add to their experience. Excellent open attitude by employees to help each other and respond quicky to any emails requesting help.
Cons
Now it is shedding the long serving middle and junior managers it will lose a lot of the tribal knowledge that kept the place ticking over and delivering. Hard to see how it will survive between Acer/Apple in consumer market and HP/IBM in the high end corporate. Now a 'me too' company without any clear differentiating features.
Advice to Senior Management
Make real use of this year's 'Tell Dell' employee feedback survey to change the company from within - the idea for this survey was a brave one when it started out but it is now a joke of an exercise to most employees - you would get more truth from the Glassdoor.com reviews.
Pros
Competitive Salary, Good Perks and compensation package. Challenging work and a chance for personal reward and growth with the right attitude. The possibility to work with some exciting products and technologies. For the really skilled and good networker oportunities for career progression. The international atmosphere at the workplace. Highly compettive atmosphere.
Cons
Job security is maybe not the best. One day you wake up and find out that your job has been outsourced to another party without you being able to do anything about the situation. Dell is a big company and not much influence on any decisions at all. Highly compettive atmosphere.
Advice to Senior Management
Think Outside the box
Pros
Salary is very good compare to other IT companies its at the top people on my team are great to work with, we bounce ideas off each other when you mention it to your manager an idea you may have that's when the problems start, they put objects in your way and will try to steal your idea if they can.
Cons
Managers are driven by stats every day you have a 5 min meeting with your manager at your desk and he/she will go through your previous day stats. I have been working in Dell now three years the other day I arrive two minutes late for work and I had the riot act read to me, have never been late since starting in Dell. Customers complain that Dell products are not as good as HP/IBM and sometime they are right there are server products out there that should never have seen the light of day.
Advice to Senior Management
Get your act together focus more on customers and the quality of the product.
