I have been working at Dell full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Dell really cares about their employees with a strong focus on work/life balance as well as career development. This is addition to the multitude of free courses and training opportunities makes working for Dell a no brainer.

    Cons

Change can happen slowly. Like walking through mud. But then I guess that is probably true in most large companies.

I worked at Dell full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Great product, people and opportunities

    Cons

Moving from a publicly held company back to private seems to be the demise of the EqualLogic product line.

    Advice to Management

    Listen to the employees more.

I have been working at Dell full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, can work from home as long as it is ok with the team.

    Cons

The reorganization since Dell went private has created a lot of uncertainty. Many people are paranoid about their job.

    Advice to Management

Their is way to many unknowns.

I have been working at Dell full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I was attracted to Dell because of the generous salary, good benefits, and very short (for me) commute. Plus, as a NH resident, I am not subject to State income tax, effectively increasing pay by 5.25% over my previous job in MA.

    Cons

In my 25+ year career, I have held senior/principal engineering positions in about 10 different high-tech companies, from start-ups to telecom giants. Without a doubt, Dell/Equallogic has the most political, byzantine corporate culture I have ever encountered. If you love to engage in office intrigue more than technical engineering for building your career, this is definitely the place for you. But if like me you have lots of innovative ideas and technical ambition, look elsewhere.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, some of which may have some good ideas, rather than the dictatorial style of management currently in evidence in the Nashua, NH location. Also, get rid of your antediluvian performance rating system, which ranks each employee against every other in a 1-N ranking, grouped in ranks of 1-5, with a set number of employees in each. The system is demoralizing to many, and contributes to fierce employee rivalry.

I worked at Dell full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Pay and benefits are good. A number of fun events take place throughout the year. Many opportunities to give back to the community.

    Cons

Tools for the job are too many or too few depending on the position.

    Advice to Management

Do a better job of listening.

I worked at Dell full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

    Fantastic benfits and great products

    Cons

People from remote aquisitions should be canned immediately as they often are cliquish bunch and are very resistent to the Dell way

    Advice to Management

Deep six management from remote aquisitions

I worked at Dell as a contractor (More than a year)

    Pros

Nashua NH campus is nice. Laid back, fun, good work / life balance, friendly place. Before the outsourcing to India some good opportunities.

    Cons

Not very organized. Middle management plentiful, not very useful. When in panic mode go for "let's check everything from A to Z instead of spending a little time identifying where the effort is actually needed.

    Advice to Management

More openness with regards of the future situation, too much middle management. The relationship between QA and development needs attention.

I have been working at Dell full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Dell typically pays above average salaries, and Michael Dell seems serious about reshaping the company to be a heavy weight IT services company with enterprise solutions for servers, storage, network, security, cloud management and data center services.

    Cons

A lot of aspirational plans to really grow the services business which existed before the company went private may remain aspirational. The frequency of org restructuring is very difficult to keep track of.

    Advice to Management

Bring down the walls between the various Lines of Businesses. Inter company competition is not exactly healthy and typically does not bode well with the clients. For the services business, concentrate service delivery, consulting under one umbrella rather than having multiple services offerings across different lines of businesses.

I have been working at Dell full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Compensation, working from home when needed is not a problem

    Cons

Uncertainty about future direction during the current transition phase after becoming a private company.

    Advice to Management

You have a great team of employees, utilize their skills to enter into new product areas.
