I have been working at Dell

    Pros

brand recognition, good benefits, good connections, excellent career opportunity by having Dell on your resume

    Cons

Regional Sales manager practice favoritism, fraud, and corruption. A lot of cheating, unprotected territories. Unreachable goals.Violation of discrimination laws.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Fire all Regional Manager from DSG and hire people directly from Dell. Get your act together and maybe employees will stick around. Teach RMs to be leaders and supporters, not dictators and abusers.

    - Promotion is not guaranteed even if you've performed at a high level

I have been working at Dell full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great incentives if you are an ISR. A lot of help from your team from field reps to your inside sales team.

    Cons

Open table work environment. A lot of room for distractions and no privacy with six person tables piled on top of each other. No real organization. Recently went through a transition phase from AppAssure to Dell and there still seems to be a lot of "clutter" with how to get everything to mesh to continue the success AppAssure started.

    Pros

Greta for entry-level experience to put on resume with a blue chip company

    Cons

With recent changes very difficult to move up in the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out as quickly and efficiently as possible how to structure the sales force.

    I worked at Dell

    Pros

Easy job. Not a lot of managers that will tell you to work. Had to make 100 calls per day.

    Cons

Not steady. Laid off half of their workforce while I was there. Not a whole lot of direction. Managers do not care if you do well or fail. No one really has any authority. You can basically do whatever you want while you are working. No one cares.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get on your team to work. Never had a team meeting for how to reach goals.

I worked at Dell full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Started out great with comprehensive training, good coworkers, great environment, and an awesome manager. There was a lot of motivation to work hard, because pay increases were within reach and earning commission was a big goal

    Cons

Changes were made to leadership and incentives: lots of lay-offs, and it got a lot more difficult to reach pay bumps. Training disappeared, and so did the collegial environment that we had had

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees need training, accessible management, and pay that corresponds with their achievements.

    Pros

Respected company, good benefits and competitive pay.

    Cons

Ever changing management, product focus. Too many (Dell) reps per account all competing with each other.

I have been working at Dell full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Dress code is non existent so if you are into casual dress this place is for you. Also, the average age of employees here is around 25 at the high end which means lots of lacrosse in the office and tossing footballs. It is kind of like working in a daycare for pre-adults.

Good place to get a first job to learn how things shouldn't be done and if you can make it here a year in any role sales or technical you can make it in a professional environment with your eyes closed.

    Cons

This place is a puppy mill and a sweat shop which created the concept of "keep it simple stupid" with the emphasis on stupid. They constantly demand more and give less, expect long hours well beyond what is industry practice (and that is saying something). You're not as good as your last effort and there is no concept of loyalty, investment or care for your place as an employee they totally expect you to stay there 3 months or less and their "table model" screams this. You can make money here there is no doubt but what is in doubt is if your sanity relative to the idiocy will sustain you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Quit and do your people and the business a favor because your lack of vision is appalling.
