On a learning spree in my first company

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)
    Bangalore (India)

ProsA good company for beginners , get to learn a lot of new technologies and be at par with the market. They give you the much desired freedom and space to work as u want and contribute to the fullest.
A peaceful place to be in for mid experience level employees. Good team building spirit and keeps u grounded and rooted to the day to day life apart from IT with various events and activities happening from time to time. Easy culture for being an American company in India.

ConsAs it will all companies and depends from project to project, stretched hours, timelines, work load , but it brings out the best more efficient part of ones to handle crisis and critical situations.
Salary growth - depends on the company performance.

    Dell; close but no cigar

    Senior Consultant (Current Employee)
    London, England (UK)

ProsSome good people and friendly and pay is pretty good.

ConsInsipid management, all about sales despite all the talk and career progression is pretty limited.

Advice to Senior ManagementDo any of the middle management actually make a difference or have any real control or influence over what happens? Er...nope. Still I must congratulate you all on excel skills with spreadsheets.

Good company to work in Brazil

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsWork-life balance is good, and the company has a good policy of home office.
The company is non-hierarchical, which helps to work with people of different levels of seniority.

ConsCompensation and benefits for non-sales people is not really attractive.

Dell Services: Great place to learn but limited scope of growth

Client Tech Support Senior Associate (Current Employee)
    Bangalore (India)

    ProsEmployee friendly.
Management is willing to hear employee's grievances and makes an attempt to resolve them.
    Opportunities to learn and up-skill.

ConsNo much scope of growth if you are ambitious.
Appraisals and hike are more of a formality. Can't expect much even if you are a top performer.
Work gets monotonous and saturated after a couple of years in the same role.

Advice to Senior ManagementIt is good to go 'Private' and make Operations/HR/Pay changes for a better future for the company, but let it not ruin the employee friendly work environment.

ProsThere are some good managers and enjoyed working for them.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen to the employees more, they managers do not always relay what is going on to make things look beeter

    Good culture but functionally fragmented

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Austin, TX

ProsTeamwork and customer-centric. There is a natural passion for customers and everyone is on the same team when it counts. Good mobility within the company to experience different jobs and cross-functional roles. Finding the right mentor is key, and the people are more than willing to help you. Communication has improved considerably from top-down.

ConsSlow to change and functionally fragmented. Company operates still on the Sales transaction of a PC. This is the core of Dell (selling PCs); however, going private is intended to truly speed the strategy to a Solutions based IT provider... this includes evolving the Portfolio of products, Sales, Manufacturing, and Delivery of such solutions to the Customer. This evolution competes with the 'transactional model' and there is a much needed investment of People, Process, and Technology to enact change. Unfortunately, Dell is slow to change and there seems to be a lack of direction provided to the front line team members. This causes frustration and inconsistency across the end-to-end value chain (Sales, Manufacturing, Delivery). As well, there is a noticeable over-burdened team of Talent that is executing on the day-to-day mission in conjunction with being the key change agents. Customer experience can suffer as a result.

Advice to Senior ManagementAccelerate change but do not sacrifice your customers. Set the direction, set the framework for change, enlist change agents to lead, drive the change across end-to-end functions (instead of 'pockets' of change that are not functionally integrated), don't impact the core of your largest accounts during this change

    Life At Dell

    Services (Current Employee)
    Round Rock, TX

ProsFast paced, interesting work. Pays better than many other area employers. Opportunity for job changes and promotions. Bonus is nice.

ConsConstant changes, lots or reorgs. Like with any large company there is a large amount of politicking that goes on. Networking is key to success.
