I have been working at Dell

    Pros

Big company with plenty of opportunity to move up/around. In fact it seems like its encouraged to move every 2-5 years. Depending on what role you have you might be expected to move up on a regular basis (sales).

    Cons

Often Dell decides to change its direction... A LOT. This can be frustrating because at times you will have just gotten a grasp on a new process and then they will do a 180 on you.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pick long term direction and MAKE SURE the lower management is implementing. Too often it seems like the execs know the plan, but the footsoldiers are just running back and forth.

I have been working at Dell

    Pros

Big company, financially stable, lots of global locations if you want to work internationally.

    Cons

Too big, they have a lot of people walking around with no real job but they collect pay checks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Work on Dell culture to focus more on the customer. I have been here over a year now and I find that the most consistent cultural norm is that the customer prevents people from doing their job. Its like they would actually prefer to not have customers. This is pervasive at all levels in all organizations.

I have been working at Dell full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Its an easy life, alot better than it used to be, no more micro management, come in and leave on time, Co workers are great. Good starting point for IT career- you will need to Join another company to get paid well though, it wont happen in Dell.

    Cons

Terrible Pay versus other IT companies (worst in Dublin) 30-40k, Citrix, Oracle etc 70k+ for sales role. Since the buyout, company has no direction, Targets have gone crazy and hitting target is a thing of the past for most. No encouragement to move up the ladder and its generally who you know not what you know! Since iv been at Dell iv never been explained how my target was given, literally numbers out of the sky, very annoying when you work hard to do well! I wont even mention Aquasitions target, just know its horrendous and even finance cant explain it! Just beware.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Does anyone actually know whats happening? Targets are huge because of this 'buyout', the sales floor is a ghost town compared to 8 years ago, doesnt that say something? when 50% of staff want to take VSP... says alot really....!
