I worked at Dell full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Dell is positioned to grow and going private will allow the company to invest and change direction more quickly than in the past where wall street demands were slowing progress and investment. If you don't like where you are, there are many well-run groups you can move to for more experience and a change of environment.

    Cons

Thus far the privatization has had minimal impact on tedious processes and the crystal ball is being kept under a cloak for now as far as major direction changes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to share more of your vision and what the future holds with employees, or you'll end up with teams that aren't inspired, lose your best talent, and only have folks there who have no other place to go.

I have been working at Dell full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great atmosphere, work-life balance in place, gym and cafe on premises. I can tell a huge effort has been put into shedding the negative reputation of working at Dell. Management is as transparent as possible. If you work hard and get things done you will be recognized. There are many levels of awards in place, so there are lots of opportunities to get your pat on the back.

    Cons

Lots of silos and internal movement make it hard to develop a network

I worked at Dell full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Dell has plenty of opportunity. There's a running joke that to stay in any single role more than two years is certain career death there - but the upside of that is you really have mobility an don't get locked into a single position.
I was able to work as a project and program manager in product development both on hardware and on software - and in another role on a team that deployed enterprise equipment directly into the customer site - and on a team that was implementing a new master data management system for the customer data. So I really had the opportunity to learn many technologies.
My co-workers in all my roles were smart, hard-working, and I really enjoyed working with them.
The pay was awesome - great base rate and usually a pretty good yearly bonus.
Great flexibility on work from home, most management is very understanding about home and personal life.

    Cons

It was difficult to feel like you were accomplishing at times - since Dell hires highly motivated individuals who like to feel a sense of accomplishment and success, this can be difficult.
If you don't set your boundaries you can find yourself owning too many assignments - I left voluntarily and discovered that after I left, I was replaced by 3 people. So you have to know when to say "no" (obviously I didn't!)
This is not true of all areas - but one area I worked in had competing projects going on - this seemed like a waste of resources to me.
Like many tech companies, this one is global so long hours and weekends dealing with the global sites - but it is cool to work with people all over the world.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the great pay and benefits! Keep giving people opportunity to move around and grow!

Stop wasting money and people on competing resources.
