Pros
You get to work with some very talented people. Exciting travel, feeling of importance, treated like a king by airlines, hotels ect... Expense account is easy to use.
Cons
Travel. For me their was a ton of it and working 5 days a week in a remote location and then having weekends back home was taxing.
Advice to Senior Management
Check in on middle managers to be sure they are doing their job effectively. Often times the Senior Manager/Partner level staff was very effective but that didn't always translate into effective management by the mid-level managers.
Pros
Deloitte has many advantages gleaned from its large size. I enjoyed my opportunities to work with and learn several systems. The younger employees most often are great to work with.
Cons
A lot of their image is inflated by their pub materials. I worked in a boring, repetitive assignment with incompetent people who would rather bicker than communicate effectively.
Advice to Senior Management
Don't waste so much time backtracking and changing your mind. Realize that if you invest the time to do something conscientiously and well the first time, it doesn't have to be redone. Choose the appropriate tool for the job.
Pros
Strong belief in employee commitment
Competitive pay
Huge pool of resources
Strong clientele
Cons
Still on the lowside of pay
Political promotion process
Advice to Senior Management
Remove political and quotas out of review process
Pros
able to put big 4 firm on your resume. offices everywhere so if you get good reviews, you could even transfer overseas for some time to see the world.
Cons
long hours, often more than 80 hours/week during busy seasons (which apparenty run about all year long). too much travel...if you don't work in an office in a LARGE city, you will be travelling quite a bit of the time for months at a time.
Advice to Senior Management
please be upfront with new hires about the actual travel they will be expected to do....don't say 25% and really mean that 25% to be the time you will be in town.
Pros
Riding the waves of the Deloitte brand. This company is a great place to tell people you work and many people find it impressive you work there.
Cons
Deloitte knows they are a good company, so leverages that to treat their employees poorly. It's the, "we know we are great, you should be honored to work for us" mentality. The time commitment employees must undertake is often relentless and it comes without ANY recognition and financial incentive. Additionally, the review process takes entirely too long and is not beneficial when it even comes. Clients are scare and work is few and far between. It's not the good ole days like it once was.
Advice to Senior Management
Treat your employees better with up-front, honest feedback to show recruits, and employees the true life that is Deloitte.
Pros
You can get good experience in client management at Deloitte. The management is decent.
Cons
Too much travel can hinder work-life balance.
Advice to Senior Management
Reduce travel requirement
